I always liked how Iced Earth took the best parts of power metal but left out the most cheesy parts. They talked about fantasy like a lot of power metal, but it just doesn't sound cheesy to me when they do it.

I think Greely left on his own because he was disheartened that the band didn't seem to be getting big. Matt Barlow is still my favorite IE vocalist but Night of the Stormrider is my favorite IE album. Greely knocked it out of the park on that one.

@@rasputincharlemagnemalahayati Jon Greely was on a metal podcast (the metal round table) a few months ago. He addresses all of it. It was money problems. They got back from that Stormrider tour with no money. Jon Greely complained that he was behind on rent and Schaffer let him go. The stuff about Greely being bigoted, Greely said it wasn't true. He was pissed at John Schaffer for a long time but eventually forgave him. They are cool now. Greely actually sides with Schaffer about the Jan 6th thing and they still talk.

The impression I get of him is that he had a big ego and was right wing even by Schaffer's standards, so rubbed the band the wrong way. He's still my fave vocalist they had, his stuff just sounds right to me. I know a reunion of this lineup is unlikely cause Randy Shawver hasn't spoken to Jon in years, but would be nice if Greely and Schaffer worked together sometime.

Been trying to find footage of Greely when he was in Iced Earth. Doubly good find as it also has John Schaffer singing Stormrider which i find hard to find amongst other videos where Schaffers guitar playing overpowers everyone's phone mic's.

Best Iced Earth lineup EVER. Night of the Stormrider is still their best album imo. Randall Shawver with those amazing leads and Rick Secchiari playing some of the best and tightest drumming ever. Then you have John Greely's tremendous vocals.

Rick sichriari (or something like that) was the drummer for the album, released in april, and considering this gig was in september and it says Rodney was a member from 1992 through to after Burnt Offerings in 95, I'd guess that Rodney was hired as the new drummer after NOTSR was released

Leonardo Bruno Chaves Siqueira No this is Randall Shawver. He left the band prior to the release of Something Wicked This Way Comes and Alive in Athens. Troy Steele, by far, is the best Iced Earth lead guitarist. His work on the Plagues of Babylon album is amazing, outdoing Randall's time as lead guitarist.

I never understood why IE couldn't maintain a consistent line up. Constantly swapping out members. I personally think Schaffner took the band in the wrong direction after Stormrider. Would've had much more success finding a solid line-up and playing this sort of soulful thrash. Not that I don't enjoy the Barlow era.. It just doesn't compare to this.

Matt is god and Burnt Offerings is the darkest album of them. They were always Power/Thrash. Schaffer is a crazy guy.
