Man, I'm getting the impression that Jon Schaffer would've never had his oh so famous tight thrash gallop style if it wasn't for Randy!

With all due respect to the other Iced Earth lead guitarists, Randall is by far my favorite. Iced Earth is a very tuneful Metal band, both song and vocal melodies. It's so important for the lead player to complement that and no one does it better than Randall Shawver. My buddy put it the best when he said Randall's leads took you on a journey, not just a short trip. Some lead players can ruin the song with random, self centered leads. That was never the case with Randall as his ear pleasing, sometimes mystical and haunting guitar work were the focal point of the band. They meshed perfectly with Jon's galloping rhythms and Matt's soaring vocals. Since Randall co-wrote many of the songs, he obviously has that musical ear in his guitar playing. That early Iced Earth line-up was legendary. Great interview.

Randall is a phenomenal guitar player. His lead guitar playing on the self titled debut album, Night Of The Stormrider, Burnt Offerings, Days Of Purgatory, and The Dark Saga are amazing. He also helped cowrite some of the songs from those albums. Night Of The Stormrider is the first Iced Earth album I ever got back in 1995 , and I have been a huge massive fan ever since. Randall was very important for Iced Earth on their first few albums and songs. I think it would be awesome if Randall and Jon Schaffer did something together again sometime in the future. They had amazing chemistry together. I love every lead guitar player that Iced Earth has ever had, but Randall is my favorite because his style is so unique and amazing. No matter what, Randall will always be part of Iced Earth's legacy. He was a very important member of the band in the time he was in the band.

I appreciate that brother. Jon is a talented musician. Although I always preferred the style that interested me and was a challenge as was presented on the first 3 releases. We may do something again as I always considered Jon a brother. But with time and distance, you lose that connection. I am conflicted now because the government is trying to fuck him over for what I consider to be a minor infraction. He definitely does not deserve to go to prison based on the reports of government agents who have shown no proof.

Man I missed Shawver IE havent really had a great lead guitarist(until recently, Jake Dreyer is great.) Troy Seele was godawful, and Larry was ok(his stint on Alive in Athens was phenomenal though,)

Randall is a great guitarist but he is also a schizophrenic nut job that starts fights with innocent people because he always thinks everyone is calling him a "Faggot" because he refuses to treat his mental condition.😠
