This the film clip that came out with the song…..we listened to and saw this in the 80’s. I didn’t even realise yet how wonderful our country is….later another clip came out and it shows more of Australia….still my fav is this original, younger people will love the later films clip more. They don’t have the nostalgia attached…..I only need the song, no visuals…..I go right back to the late 80s…..amazing time in Australia, our music was exceptional,but we didn’t know it or appreciate it….I do now!

Mike, that’s exactly what I was thinking, using a drone to see The Great Southern Land, it brings the lyrics even more alive. Newer vids use them as you’d know. All over the world being able to see many countries from a drone is beautiful

Side note history wise. The English's decision to send their convicts to Australia (New Holland) in 1788 was a direct response to getting kicked out of America and not being able to send them over there anymore. So you might say the U.S. War of Independence gave birth to White Colonial Australia. Thanks for that.

One of my favourite bands in the 80's. My mates and I would hang outside the venue or pub they play and listen in as they played. Check out earlier stuff like ''Can't Help Myself'', ''We Can Get Together''... Sydney was a great place for bands to develop. INXS, The Church and Divinyls were also part of this great New Wave of Sydney bands. Style and substance can't coexist says no one..

Ivor Davies is more adult pop than rock etc, but writes excellant music and songs......a former classically trained oboe player who shocked his familly and came over to the music " dark side ". One of his lesser known songs is in my own top 5 i have ever heard. A Man Of Colours.......pure brilliance that uses Ivors oboe in a modern pop / rock song. PS : Ivor originally recorded his first album as a solo act, but used the band name Flowers. The album was titled Ice House. Everyone called his ficticious band Ice House and thought the album title was Flowers........in the end Ivor had to put a real band together to tour and perform live, so eventually, Flowers became Ice House. lol
@karenglenn67075 ай бұрын
And the great bassist Guy Pratt who played with Pink Floyd during the Pulse concerts also played with Icehouse for quite a while.

@Sheriff Mike, Ice house was originally named 'The Flowers', but had to change the name of the Band due to a clash in Band Title, so I guess if you enjoy the music, you might search the original Band name 🇦🇺

Just to let you know, Mike, prisoners were how the States started, too. It's not something a lot of Americans realise. They sent them to Australia when America gained independence in the war with Britain. From the Australian History Museum: "America. The Act made transportation simpler and increased the number of convicts transported to America. More than 50,000 criminals had been transported by 1775. These convicts were instrumental in the early development of what became the United States of America". America, as it says, stopped in 1775. Australia it was just over 150 years ago. We are still a very young country only becoming a Federation in 1901. But we are still under the Crown.
