Once Again Tom you have made me rethink my approach to landscape Photography, In hard conditions simplicity should always appeal the photographer. I was one of the students waiting in the Van for 6 hrs for the clouds to clear, I never thought to use a ND grad in those conditions but as a seasoned Photographer you showed us the use of different Techniques and how to approach each composition during the Workshop. Thanks Again for a Memorable time in Iceland.

I think you are missing a point. I think Tom was not saying: by the way, if the weather is bad, use this filter and try to find some simplicity. What he was saying was, even if the weather is miserable, don't be lazy, go out, use your eyes, find the composition that suit your mood and use your experience and your devices to convert those compositions into good photographs.

As a landscape photographer, you are able to show in your photos, the mood and emotions, conditions at the moment, the technical and the efforts done to achieve a photo. It is really inspiring to see all the aspects and how you can translate them into your videos and photos.

I’ve just finished your Iceland videos. Wow. I think your best images by far are those that use the black rock/sand of Iceland and the whiteness of clouds and turbulent water. Your image of the bending coastline (the 2 second SS one) and the trickling water down the black rock image are two of my all time favourites of yours! Inspirational as always. I’m genuinely watching you evolve as a photographer over the years, gone from the obvious vistas to the intimate, abstract and contrast compositions. “Absolutely gorgeous”

These two stones on a black sand is one of my favourite pictures of you. So simple, so quiet. It is not only a picture, it is an athmosphere. I could definitelly put that on my wall.

Thomas, what can i say? i am simple awe struck at how you remain focused and always positive, and the results are there to prove you know what you are doing. fantastic, brilliant images and i am sure i am allowed to speak for many other enthusiastic photographers out there - you inspire, you energize, you stimulate so many of us and thank you for that.

Tom, I absolutely love your simple, grey, desolate photo of the two rocks on the black sand beach. It really captures the moment of your being in Iceland on that day. Every time you look at this photo, you're going to conjure up those emotions and those memories. It's a much more powerful image than many would give it credit for. Excellent work Tom! Loved how you made lemonade out of the lemons you were given this day.

IMHO, your two shots during your bad, horrible, last day put you on a new level. I was once in Iceland about 30 years ago for two days in November. To me, you nailed what Iceland is all about in those two images. Iceland is all about lava, water and wind, in all their forms. Also the scale of both images is epic. Epic is about contrasts, not absolute size.
@davidgilmore30646 жыл бұрын
Hey Thomas. Great images. Emphasis on simplicity is one of the key ingredients for me, in communicating through imagery. I am very appreciative of your efforts in such challenging conditions. The two shots you shared capture a significant mood and I’m sure when you look at them down the road you will remember vividly, how you felt then in the wind and blowing sand and it will take you back to that moment. My favourite images are the ones that remind me not only of the place but of how I felt at the time. The weather may have been crap but your efforts were well worth it. Again, thanks. Dave

Tom, I was just getting ready to tell you about Pakgil Campsite off of 214 but I see that you already discovered it. I hope you were able to experience the cave at night with all the candles. We have made 4 trips to Iceland since 2018- chasing volcanos, northern lights and puffins. I have learned that chasing anything in Iceland sets you up for disappointment. The wind is always there. Good weather is an exception! You just have to work around the difficulties. Enjoyed your experience- I can easily see myself standing in the same beautiful locations seeing it thru other peoples eyes. Keep shooting and sharing. Nice to see you smiling again and enjoying the journey (s).

Hi Tom, loved this vlog. Had the same experience a couple of months ago when I went to Nova Scotia and drove the Cabot Trail. Was hoping for fine weather but, like you, had miserable damp, grey and miserable conditions. You're absolutely right- the images are amazing. Once again you prove to me (and probably to a lot of others) what an inspiration you are. You manage to explain in simple terms what it is that makes your images work. We can all see that they're great images, but when you explain it you help develop my creative photographers view (if that makes any sense) and hopefully help me get those great images along the way. And it is symptomatical that you are getting out in the wind and the cold and finding the images that are still there to be shot even though the weather is miserable. Absolutely stunning!😀

I enjoyed the journey, but for photography it was very difficult and i didn´t catch a lot of pictures i really liked at the moment. Coming home tomorrow i will revisit the files and hope for some revelations. I think i even managed to drown my Pentax which should be near impossible. Best campsite i have ever been to. The whole area is a dream, the drie alloone took me ages because i had to stop at every corner. Thanks for the video. You always have to work with what mother nature gives you. Your two rocks and black beach have the abstact beauty of a painting by Rothko. I remember being at the National Gallery at Washington staring at one of his black painting for almost an hour. After some minutes what first look like a big black canvas started to shine with all kinds of different colours. There was red-black, and violet-black and green, and they had a tri dimensional quality. It´s not only the photo, or the photographer, it´s also the beholder.
