Hi Jan, thanks for this video about traveling to Iceland in August. You picked a good day to film this to show how quickly the weather can change there. It is always good to pack for several different seasons when traveling in places like that.

Clouds definitely made it more interesting and luckily I didn't get wet on my way back. But it was pouring rain later that day so I'm glad that the luck was on my side that afternoon! :)

Thank you so much for providing this information. I'm contemplating doing a 2-3 day stopover in Iceland towards the end of the month. So I wasn't sure what clothes to bring.

Hi Jan, it's around 8pm in Akureyri, and 12c. Here in Montreal, it is 4:21pm and (28c). It was 30c earlier today. It is very beautiful up there. Since Canada has been seeing the Northern Lights more often than usual, I keep the NOAA Aurora Dashboard on my desktop. It is a good source for where the Auroras are going to show up on any given night.

I just spoke to my parents in Czech, temps there are now touching 34 C, which I think is way to much, 15-25 max is a sweet spot I think. I very much look forward to the start of the Aurora season, tbh I've only used forecast from Icelandic met office thus far, but I will try test the NOAA as well this year it seems like it could be a useful tool

Coming back to Iceland next Sept/Oct next year is a dream I AM going to make happen. It’s always good to know how conditions change, I do not want to get caught with inadequate stuff! I’ve been really lucky with my past 2 trips in that there was no rain 😮 I’d never let it stop me though.
@janiniceland
@janiniceland 3 ай бұрын
that's really lucky I'd say! 😄 out of curiosity what months were your last trips? September/October can be sometimes more rainy but as always it really varies from year to year....some rain is fine though, as long as it doesn't rain during the whole trip

@@katesommerville7217 So that makes a perfect sense that you'll visit in Sept/Oct next time - you've seen Iceland in spring, winter and now it's time to find out what is the autumn in Iceland all about 😀 I really like that time of the year, I'm sure you'll love it too!

Iceland is just so beautiful! I wont be wearing shorts, though! Ten degrees Celsius is our average high in January. Twenty is close to our average highs in March. I'll just look strange in my heavy winter coat scarf and gloves.

Haha don't worry you won't be alone! But also don't be surprised when you see locals in short sleeve shirt and shorts as soon as the temperature reaches near 15 C 😄

@@janiniceland Thanks! I should have added that our average in August is 31c and it can easily get to 35c, or even more. I probably would not put on shorts until it was at least 25c.

As a tourist when is the best time to visit Iceland within the year.
@janiniceland
@janiniceland 2 ай бұрын
That's not easy question to answer as each time of the year has its advantages and disadvantages...but I often recommend end of September for example...it's a little bit less tourists, you can see aurora, nice colours of the landscape etc.

is it illegal to park somewhere, and ride bicycle in the mountain? or do you need to park only in official car parks even in countryside ?
@janiniceland
@janiniceland Ай бұрын
nah you can park pretty much anywhere as long as it's not a private property...like for example just make sure you're not blocking the road or parking for example on the farmers field...but do not park outside of the road, that's considered offroading and you can get fined. A lot of it is a common sense. But overall I think you should have no issue finding a place to park.
