Sleipnir was the son of Loki - and because all of Loki's children were tainted (by chaos), Sleipnir was tainted as well. Incidentally, Loki was not Sleipnir's father, but actually his mother - when Odin commissioned a giant of the Hrimthursar family to build a wall around Asgard, the giant asked for the goddess Freya as a reward, and the foolish Odin (on Loki's advice) promised it to him if he could build the wall in just one winter (i.e. 6 months), because he thought it couldn't be done... But the giant had a great horse, Svadilfari, and was building so fast that he was in danger of finishing. So the AEsir appealed to Loki to stop it, and he promised to sort it out. He turned into a beautiful mare and lured Svadilfari away - but he didn't run fast enough and the horse caught up with him - a few months later Loki gave birth to an eight-legged foal... :)
