Hi Jan, thanks for this video of the reopening of the famous Blue Lagoon. Glad that you included the call to get extra information. It sounds like they are doing their best to protect visitors from the potential Gas Pollution with the installation of the 40 detectors. There probably is always a risk in such a situation so each person has to decide for themselves.
@janiniceland7 ай бұрын
Hello Ben and thank you for sharing your thoughts! That is true, it is up to everyone to decide. I just hope that each visitor is being informed about the threat as the statement on their website can be very easily overlooked. I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy the lagoon without a stress or having to evacuate

I think it's absolutely insane! Wasn't there two separate incidences of Blue Lagoon employees being hospitalized a few weeks ago? Every time they have evacuated, it has taken 45 minutes to get everyone out. That's fine if it's just lava erupting and you very likely have several hours before it gets close. If the wind shifts, the pollution detectors go off, and the resort is being flooded with CO2 and sulfur gas, you have minutes to get out before you are injured, or dead. Obviously, there are some days when the risk is lower than others but, as long as the vents are smoking, there are never days when it is zero.
@janiniceland7 ай бұрын
Really? I didn't even hear about that. With the wind, that can usually can be well forecasted and so I hope that they will strictly follow the instructions if the safety is in doubt. It reminds me of first eruptions where you could hike all the way to the volcano and it was always determined according to wind direction where you could go or if the site was closed for the public completely. Other than the gas I think that the eruption is localized enough for them not to worry too much as there aren't any rapid changes atm- but like I said in one of my previous videos, each eruption shows us how little we actually know about the volcanos, anything could happen at any time without any previous signs or warnings and so I agree there will never be a zero risk.

@@janiniceland I know there was one grounds keeper that was hospitalized for several days in serious condition. I'm in the US and only get news of the volcano on KZbin. We are too caught up in the melodrama of our presidential election for the news to spend time on a small volcano in Iceland. I haven't heard a follow up on what happened to him, though. I'm pretty sure there was another person a week or so later, but I don't think they were as bad off.

There are many natural hot pools in Iceland that are well away from eruptions and gas. And they're nicer!

Blue Lagoon had to evacuate today. The volcano sent poisonous air towards the resort, and gas alarms started beeping

I just saw it now. I'm really curious if the BL refunded people or not. Apparently their cancelation policy on their website goes against what the woman I spoke to on the phone said.

Hi buddy. I’m just in KEF. Where would you recommend filming by drone. Can you drone around the blue lagoon?
@janiniceland7 ай бұрын
Hey! You mean to shoot the eruption? I think you can drive as far as Blue lagoon and fly from there and around there. Just follow the general rules about drone flying in Iceland. Video about that on my channel. Happy flying!

Jan, thank you for the advice for capturing footage. I got some really good footage. I went up the hill opposite the Blue Lagoon. The hill is tough but it was really worth it. I have posted it on my Chanel. Thanks again

Thank you for the video, very interesting and making a phone call that was also interesting to hear what they said. I would like to go to the Blue lagoon but I don't want to go all the way from the U.K. and find it has closed again , it's opening and closing like a pair of curtains, it has just closed again, I'm sure they are doing their best to keep people safe , but I would like to enjoy relaxing & not thinking about if there is going to be an evacuation.
@janiniceland7 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I completely understand that. I guess you can wait till the eruption is over and then book sort of last minute. But then there's still the question about the safety, as sooner or later another eruption will follow after this one, but nobody can't ever tell with 100% accuracy when where exactly is the fissure going to open up.

It is actually chemical waste water you're bathing in! There's a video on youtube explaining what the blue water actually is. There is a plant very nearby and it's waste water is "cleaned" and dumped into the man-made lagoon. The "healing silica" are actually chemical plastic particles. 80 dollars entrance for that?? You'd better spend that money on yourself and choose other and way better thermal baths (Myvatn, Geosea) or take a dip in the many free geothermal pools or community pools which often include saunas.

To be honest in all those year living here, I've never even gone there just because of how touristy and expensive it is. It just happens to be in a very convenient location, they have good marketing and thanks to the amount of people going there and sharing it on social media, it makes it seem like this is a must visit place when traveling to Iceland. But like you say, visiting other lagoons, pools and hot springs that Iceland has to offer is the right way to go
