So nice to see you in Amsterdam! I'm sorry you experienced such horrible Dutch weather. Come back between May and September, it is (usually) much better. Great trip report. Iceland looked beautiful! and windy! Not sure why they checked your carry on bags like that. Maybe due to the change in aircraft? I love the 757 too. Great recording quality with your phone. I can never capture airline menus so clearly. Well done.

they force bag checks all the time at Schiphol, I've had the same thing with aegean, Lufthansa, tap, etc. The staff just want to get the flight away sooner

Great video Jayden! Stroopwafles was my new favourite snack after I visited Amsterdam and brought lots of parks to bring back to Australia. Also at those prices Iceland air should give complimentary food and drinks, to make it more appealing over the low-cost carriers. Interesting you chose to stay out of the city centre.

LOVE THE BLOGS THAT SHOW THE COUNTRY.... i am amazed that you all got out in that weather......loved 6ft4's orange cap.....i would need lined pants and several layers to go out in that weather...SO ADMIRE YOU BOTH.... need to get the hotel to do your laundry.....etc....yes they do it for a fee but it not much ...saves time....etc.....

Great video, Jayden! I actually stayed in the same Hilton when I was in Amsterdam. Definitely very convenient. I couldn't figure out what the deal was with checking in all the carry ons. What a hassle for the passengers and the staff. I don't see the upside there. Sounds like the flight went well outside of that. Glad you were enjoying your time in Iceland. That was a lovely view from your room. It's a beautiful country but so expensive. The high cost has inhibited me from going there. Maybe some day.

Super cool bag drop machine! I havent flown through AMS in years but i enjoyed it back in the day before it got too crowded. I hope they get their staffing issues sorted for thr summer travel season. Good call on the stroopwaffels. Surprised they dont have them in AUS, you can find them in the US, and even UA serve mini stroopwaffels on domestic flights. Cool Iceland vlog. Was nice to see everything in your Insta stories tied together.

Another Beautiful video, jayden. You're getting more and more professional. Particularly enjoyed this one, for sentimental reasons : flew Icelandair on the LUX-KEF-ORD and return. The first time I flew to the USA. Operated by a DC 68 super 63. It involved a 60 minute stopover in Iceland and a change of crew. Beautiful memories (1982)

This is a common ploy with American based carriers as well as the flight crew decides that passengers should unnecessarily check in their carry on bags. It causes unneeded stress.

I flew Icelandair in 2014. Back then, all they had was the 757's. While I liked the airline, they were having labor problems and rolling strikes which resulted in the cancellation of our flight from JFK to KEF. We had no problem on the return to JFK but I didn't breath a sigh of relief until we were wheels up out of KEF. Iceland is a beautiful country and a trip worth taking but the Icelandair experience was stressful due to the unpredictable labor situation. I hope by now, it's all been sorted out.

Thanks for the travel vlog Jayden. Just a small point ... at AMS when you showed the BA Embraer you noted it was from LCY and you mentioned it (LCY) was a BA hub. But it's not a BA hub like LHR or even LGW. Note that LHR-AMS remains a main BA route and both BA and KLM compete for sixth freedom traffic. Yes lots of BA and KLM flights serve LCY but these mainly cater to point-to-point travellers.

When I travelled in Europe, a lot of us got told to check in our bags at the gate because we were told the flight is full and not enough overhead space. It happened departing Malta and Zurich. The overheads ended up rather empty because of it. 🤦

right!!! On the contrary, one time I flew Lufthansa BCN-FRA. Boarding was so slow and gate agent didn't offer gate check... captain PA: Put your luggage ON THE FLOOR... we are late (in a very strong, demanding German accent) 🤣

The gate staff probably think there's no overhead lockers for this flight 🤷‍♂ It is understandable if the staff request passengers to check in hand luggage if possible if it was a turboprop flight, due to the limited space of the overhead locker or there is even none at all. Even if there is no overhead locker for the flight, you can still hand in your hand luggage to the ground staff before boarding and collect them at the tarmac of your destination once you get off the plane. One good example of this is FlyPelican (a local airline based in Newcastle NSW), with Jetstream 32 being the sole aircraft type model, which doesn't have overhead lockers, any carry on luggage needs to be handed into or collected from the ground staff before or after the flight respectively

I flew Icelandair 757 pre-covid with a backpack and a carry-on luggage (self-transferring from a long-haul business class) and no one asked me to check-in any of my bags. Things have definitely changed then.

Loved it and how did you like Icelandair B737 Max? Speaking of United Airlines they'll give you a special offer to check-in a carryon for free which should have been done by Icelandair Schiphol Airport seems to rival HKG and KIX. 2:35 AA B787-8 which you did before. FI also uses the Max on KEF-EWR

They didn’t bother measuring because they were force checking everything for free haha. In my experience only low-cost (very stingy ones too) check the dimensions of the bags. But I can’t say that for every airline and every flight.

€24 for what looks like two Maccas burgers- yikes. Didn’t think they could force passengers to check in carry on . What if you had medication or something important in there? That’s stupid. Iceland looks like a nice place to visit but too gloomy and depressing to live there. 22:27 😂

Yeah so she basically directed everyone who a carry on bag (or in my case a second small bag) to a manual boarding lane where another agent will process your check in… and yes nothing in that food court was priced reasonably!🤣
