Haha the 'contrived' rules are the rules of croquet. If you hit another player's ball after going through a wicket, you get another shot and can place your ball one mallet's distance from theirs

+1 instance of "Icely made this look so good, I had to finish it myself before the video spoiled it." Always amazed by puzzle design that stays tight through reuse of the same layout, in this case, the multiple entrances to the same island making distinct puzzles without compromising on quality. I notice an extra sand tile was added to Engine since Icely's playthrough, I guess his solution was considered cheese. A bit of a shame, becasuse the result of the cheese is that you get the blue ball into the next level, only to get trolled by it rolling right into the sea. For a trollish extra exit that still remains, it is possible to return from Tunnel to Melon

This game looks like the simplest game ever where you golf a ball with only 2 shots to get into pipes, but secret level design layers (and 'secret' but entirely fair mechanic) and a really cool hint system elevates this game to a lot of praise from people.
