Planescape: Torment has, by a *wide* margin, the best writing in any game I've ever played. I don't necessarily mean the overarching story, although that too is possibly the best of any game ever, but there are other games that approach it in that respect. I mean the actual sentence-to-sentence, paragraph-to-paragraph writing. It's nigh-on perfect.

@@randomguy6679 Yep, the purpose of the game is to figure out what happened, and how you want to react to that, like you were playing a game about a private detective (except you're also the victim). There's combat, but it's largely a cakewalk. The challenge is finding the clues, and initiating the right conversation options. There are also a variety of different canonical endings, and different ways the relationships with your companions can play out, to make the story your own. It's an interactive novel, as @Jona said, and you're the co-creator of the story to determine how everything ends and what it all meant. It's a game like nothing else.

Honestly, I welcome story difficulty for when I get around to playing Icewind Dale EE. Unlike Baulder's Gate, which gives you a fairly easy first major story quest and also gives you plenty of side quests to xp grind on even beforehand, Icewind Dale throws you into the deep end, putting you up against catacombs crawling with undead tough enough to be a real threat to your low level party, unlike the kolbolds of the Nashkel mines. I honestly never finished the game simply because the early part was so damn hard, so I don't mind a 'casual' mode on this one.

Turn on Heart of Fury mode while starting out. The quest to turn in the wine to the old drunk, talking to the lake sprite with a bard, and giving the dreaming dude his family sword from the lake sprite. This will give you a ton of XP with no fighting involved. Turn off Heart of Fury and enjoy the massive boost to XP. Most of your characters will be at level 2 before you even attack a single thing. This will give you a nice little step to be ahead in XP in the early parts.

Bg2, iwd 2 and planescape torment are my most played games I actuate rewrote a storyline intk the game using some clever hex editinf and whatnot where IWD2 takes place 150 years after Throne of Bhaal and my Drow is really a Dwelf. His mother was a Dwelf who had incredible power as a sorceress and kensai. She was a wild elf and gray dwarf. Bhaal came in the form of Drizzt Do'Urdan and seduced her (after she stalemated him in combat. And Bhaal being Baal could fight every bit as good as the real Drizzt) Baals shapeshifting went right down to the DNA in a sense making the Bhaalspawn a genuine progeny of both Drizzt and Bhaal. My character stands at 5"11 and has very thick legs and arms. Dwarven strength and constitution. Elven dexterity. BAAL visited him as a baby like Sarevok and 12 others of his most capable offspring and injected vampire and dracolich blood with milk of the poppy. Later as a teenager.my character ( El Cannabyte aka The Direbiter, a name he hates but was given after being caught cannibalizing a thief at candlekeep by imoen, who had only been fed the blood combo a few times before Elminster and Gorion and Drizzt himself fended Bhaal off. Drizzt found out about his "son" but Elminster wiped that part of his memory) Anyway ... after following in his faux-fathers footsteps he became a Ranger-Barbarian due to his extremely violent temper..a cold, Hannibal Lector mindfucking violence and capability of the most calm and horrendous acts of violence.... He is also a blatant drug addict but the deadliest man with a longsword and axe in perhaps all of Faerun. His wife and adopted son are both drow..his son is a sorcerer/monk and his wife a battlepriest of selune..raised by moon elves..her son was kidnapped by the drow in a raid and he was raised as a slave fighter in the drow fighting pits. After she met Cannabyte they rescued him. He was close to becoming a drider. Never being able to overcome his addiction to poppy and the blood of vampires and liches...he went north in search of his second father, who had gone south snd teamed up with a former arch nemesis..one you had met and done a few jobs with and wete shocked to hear he was still living..he had always said Artemis.was too stubborn to die..he was also trained heavily by Artemis and had stalemated him in one deadly encounter when he was put in a rage by a Bhaalspawn that had poisoned him. He had a heart attack.before the fight could be decided. Decades after the events of TOB And decades of loving and living with the moon elves of the north....his son started having horrible nightmares of the ten towns burning. Of his father being flayed-living by orcs and a cloaked figure. Cannabyte had returned from getting his latest batch of vampire blood..unfortunately having been nearly killed and drained dry His godblood and altered dracolich dna which granted him great healing when in darkness is whar saved him. A few days later a week Cannabyte took a job from Jarlaxles guild imploring him to kill goblins and orcs from his "father's" home.of Icewind Dale. He gathered a few souls loyal.to him including the deadliest fighter he ever met: an elderly female gray dwarf with the natural strength or a frost giant. She had been cursed in a way similar to Aborgine.the Immortal. But her curse left ber with extrenely enhanced reflexes and strength but also a feeling of constant death following right behind her. The other members of his party are survivors.of the assaults on their ships coming into town. Most having lost all.of their companions. Most of his own party are underdark folk. except a mysterious dwarf bard thst has been chronicling his and his partys story. Thst is just some.of what i wrote. A century earlier he went after Drizzt in a rage looking to kill him..even knocking out his former lover Jaheria (who died giving birth to triplets of theirs. To his knowledge the babes died too but a daughter survived and was taken by Jarlaxle who's hand was forced by a powerful Matron Mother of a great Drow stronghold...that had roots reaching to the surface. Taking over the most inhospitable lands of the deepest south) Currently cannabyte is solving the mystery and problems of iwd2. Little does he or his wife know she is pregnant. She hasnt bled in a moon and is in denial aboht it. Not wanting to sideline herself. Elminster is the one who sent their mage, a lightfoot halfling raised by Elminster and trained by him and one of intelligence rivaling thst of Elminster and Cannabyte himself ( who persona and intelligence wise is Batman meets Hannibal Lector..the Mads Mikkelsen version who was like a karate empowered Satan haha) Anyway much more to.the story. Including him losing his eye to a stray goblin arrow of all.things (due to being greatly weakened by a very powerful vampire. One who is stronger than Irenicus. A chosen of Shar and empowered with godblood .and.who became addicted to Bhaalspawn blood two centuries ago. ) Elminster realizes that Baal may be gone but he had outsmarted Mystra and all.the other gods by creating a demigod inCannabyte and Sarevok (who died of old age peacefully, long became a decent man living his days helping the elven militia and training the best warriors they'd seen in thousanda of years. Even at 102 years old he was able to fight off a dozen orcs and soak up 23 arrows before falling..and crawled 50 miles to Cannabytes home, even felling two dire wolves and their vampire master..he delivered a final message to Cannabyte: a storm like Faerun has never seen is coming and you and your firstborn child will have to rally tuw champions of the world to stop it..it will come from.the frost, from The Dale! Brother, i truly am sorr...you must know thjs last thing... i-...then he died. Anyway...rheumatoid arthritis is preventing me from typing this out proper.but i did my best to incorporate this properly. Imoen's daughter is a Tiefling and half-elven Wizard and her son is a massive tiefling half-elven. Her wizard. Her husband went mad one night .you suspect it was your vampire nemesis and had to strike tje mighty half-elf half-tiefling down..Imoen is 245 years old and still living..her godblood and extreme magic talents have granted her longevity that shocks most 3 days after the death of Sarevok and your traveling to Luskan she was reported sighted killing a dozen frost giants near.Mithril Hall. She then went into the hall to see Pwent the great dwarven fighter..who fell not but a few months ago..then raised up as a vampire..they are reportedly hunting a lich and an Dracolich that call the Nameless Vampire.their.master both having been defeated, enslaved and enhanced by him. The only one in 5000 years to defeat this Drow.Vampire.is Cannabyte. Who has become a part-lich, part vampire.himself And possesses a abilities areenfrh of a dracolich And earned the attention or demons, dragons, and other.demigods like himself

Supporting pricey digital game copies are not a priority. Not either are supporting paid mods.

Ahhh...I'm not the only one to find Torment combat-heavy and difficult. I never beat the game; it beat me.

Do these games use third edition rules?

I love Planescape Torment, its the best game ever made imho. But charging 50 bucks for it is ridiculous. Get the steam version instead, or wait until the bundle is on sale

Do not get this for the Switch. Without mouse and keyboard, this game is extremely annoying to play. Get Divinity: Original Sin 2. You will thank me for it.

you are about as moronic as humanly possible. playing with gamepads is an okay way to play. if you had said that mods were available (which they are on pc versions) i would have agreed with you. That said, D:OS2 is a piece of hot dogshit.

Divinity 2 is one of the best games ever. I really should get back into it.

Yeah they really should have included the touch controls

@@Atamosk-bu7zt funny to see the pot call the kettle black, zinging a “moronic” statement back always wins arguments 🙄 lol

Planescape has a good story and dialogue but damn is it a chore to play. If Planescape had gameplay like dark souls it would be the best game of all time.

Swap out the term accessibility with either hand holding or infantilization. Or drunk mode. Swap out modern player with weakling. Then this is all pretty accurate info.
