The person they were fighting was Yukari Yakumo, the youkai (mystical creature/demon/something like that) of boundaries. She is one of the most powerful youkai in Gensokyo (where the Touhou games take place) having the ability to control the boundaries of space, time, life, death, etc. She is the phantasm level boss in the seventh title, "Perfect Cherry Blossom." As others have stated, you can get any of the games in English at moriyashrine.org.

i enjoy SO much seeing you enjoy this series, there is a fanmade animation of Touhou called Fantasy Kaleidoscope, and is subbed in english even, is SO well done that it seems like an anime. i dont have the link right now, but the name of the first one is (i think): Touhou Fantasy Kaleisoscope ~ Memories of Phantasm 1 english sub.

Yukari is a Youkai. Anyway there is a fighting game that has bullet hell elements. "Scarlet Weather Rhapsody" is the name of it

There are "english" versions of touhou games. Fan patches. On top of that touhou games are coming to steam so you can grab them there. The ones that are not on steam you'll have to find a download for.

You don't have to learn Japanese to play Touhou. With thcrap you can patch the games into English as well as many other languages.
