Judy, we all appreciate your generosity to this family. The Internet should be used more for kindness, generosity and learning. The Guildbrook family certainly encompasses this as well.

I like to congratulate Jeremy for being the only person to carry a weapon while constructing his new off grid home. I see many off grid Homesteader building their home & not protecting themselves. Most Homesteader are aware that wild animals roam close to where they living. Electric fence would be a good deterrent & also carry a weapon. A couple of weeks ago a bear rampage thru one of the Homesteader. Luckily they weren't home.

I had no doubt the inspection would pass. You have done more quality control work in just the footer than most contractors put into an entire build. I know its time consuming but your constant checking, measuring and rechecking will pay off. I'm glad to see somebody take so much pride in something. Can't wait for the next video. Thanks for sharing

Boy does that ever bring back memories!!! We built our ICF house 12 years ago, 3500 sq.feet from the outside wall. We love it. Temperature is easy to keep constant, snow storms can blow away and we don’t even hear them. We will never live in a stick house again!

Hi Jaime and Jeremy. Another excellent video, with a great deal of quality work achieved. I found your channel only recently, so I have been back to watch all your videos. You are both very inspiring, hard working and determined people. I think it is so good of you to put yourselves out there on KZbin to the world. So, I say thank you for allowing myself and others to be part of your journey. I’m very much looking forward to future videos as you make progress. Wishing you and your girls all the best. Brings back a lot of memories. I built my own house, too. 2000 sq. ft, with a full basement. Just realize that there will be issues , along the way but hang in there and plow through it all! The framing is where the big slow down comes, unless you have some help that can be there for a few days. Be extremely careful with the floor joists. There is where you will have to be dead nuts square. Start square and the rest falls into place. I assume you will be using manufactured joists. Eyeball them and string line, if necessary. Take your time, there and get them right. Good luck!

Looking good guys. It's standard to order a couple of extra yards of concrete because of the top of the footings being wider than the bottom. You are doing great being your own contractor.
@noc80765 жыл бұрын
When I heard the trucks you ordered I just knew it would be short. Do yourself a favor, take some scrap wood and build some boxes that you can pour excess concrete into. Either make pavers or blocks for smaller retaining walls. Every time you order concrete there should be some excess and with ready forms it won't go to waste.
@jtsdeals5 жыл бұрын
I had the same feeling. I watched Al Lumnah build his barn and he ordered extra with the idea of pouring a sidewalk with whatever was left. Fortunately it seems that getting the extra 2 yards didn't seem to be a big deal.
@upnorthandpersonal5 жыл бұрын
Even if you order too much and don't have any forms, it's still cheaper to just dump the excess than having another order run for concrete.

You did what we did when we ordered our concrete you forgot to account for the 2 post pier support holes. We were off 3 yards but we had 4 3'x3' holes. Happy you got alot done. In the porta potty place a small insulated cooler to hold bay wipes and toilet paper. Place the wipes in a ziploc bag and the toilet paper in a separate ziploc bag and then place in the small insulated cooler to keep the wipes from freezing in the winter. Plus if you don't store the toilet paper in a ziploc bag the bugs will eat it and the spiders will live inside the tubes.

I'm generally not one to comment on videos but it is very motivating to see y'all make progress. We live not far north of y'all in Ashe County and are about a week behind you in building a a very similar ICF house. We have the footings dug and are in the rebar process and hope to have the inspection done and concrete poured by the end of the week. We too raise chickens, hogs and other livestock. We sold off all our larger livestock a few months ago when we moved from our small farmstead in Rockingham County to our larger property in Ashe County when I retired but in the spring after we do a ton of fencing we'll get back into it. Keep up the good work. Watching y'all is like reading the instruction manual for a project as it looks like you are on very much the same path as us, just a little ahead of us. If you ever want a trip up higher in the hills come give us a visit.

I built one of these five years ago. You really have to plan ahead, like way ahead, because cutting into concrete with rebar is a pain. I didn't see anything for a basement drain, septic, well or radon. Conduit in the concrete works well for electrical but plan ahead. Plan the screw strips for wall studs and kitchen cabinets. These houses are awesome. Reach out if you want any help!

One of the most important tool to have is a string Bob even it just a heavy nut at the end. The a water level with a clear hose, it’s on the cheap, and it’s never wrong._

Thrilled to see progress for you guys! And great to see your beautiful young ladies. I know like yourself, I research everything before starting things. Just wanted to share my story. My parents went with the ICF for the basement of their addition. The last cement truck to deliver was way longer then expected behind the previous. Bottom line, a few years later, the basement started leaking. contractor who came in to assess the issue said whoever was doing the work did not mix the new concrete with the previous. Could even see it, loads were slightly different colors. (Don't know the proper term) Sort of like getting the air bubbles out of a canning jar. This caused the new concrete to layer on the previous causing a void between the two, over time created a leak. This was years ago but wanted to share. Would hate to see you have that issue.
