The glutinous rice cake sandwiched in between the sweet potato and yam is called " Ti kuih " in Hokkien Chinese, Malay called it kuih bakul in which long ago Chinese usually give out to Malay/ Indian friends during Chinese New Year festival as delicacy.

Kuih bakul = steamed glutinous rice cake - "Nian gao" in mandarin or "Leen gou" in cantonese. Usually sandwiched between sweet potato & taro, dipped in batter & fried.

It should be a "win win" collab between the beef noodle stall and the kopi-tiam. A place for the customers to eat the noodles and at the same time can consume drinks (i.e business to kopitiam).

Ahhh...my favourite pisang goreng place for the past 15 years after I discovered the place. You exposed my hidden gem to those who do not know the place already...hahaha sometimes they didnt sell the banana because they are very particular about the ripeness of their bananas....only sell when the banana is the right time to fry. The 'unknown' is yam and sweet potato layered between nian gao(Kuih bakul)....

There were lot of banana type, different banana will give different taste. Some of it can be goreng, some of it will be cekodok, some of it is good for dish like gulai pisang. Me personally love the first pisang goreng that you have. It is small, sweet, an mushy. I don't know if I am late or not, Penang (or anywhere i Malaysia) have two type of famous rojak: 1. Rojak buah; a local fruit salad with shrimp paste. 2. Rojak pasembor; assorted fritters/kuih, boiled egg and potato, some cucumber and turnip, kuah kacang and maybe shrimp paste. Yo have to try both. I love rojak pasembor, not too much on rojak buah.

For me the best type of pisang for pisang goreng is pisang raja. It's called pisang raja (literally means banana king) because it is the king of all pisang. But nowadays it's very difficult to find pisang raja. Most stalls use pisang abu like the first pisang goreng stall that Ichang and Jimmy went. I believe the second stall use pisang raja. That's why it is expensive and that's also why Jimmy asked whether they put honey on their pisang. The sweetness of pisang raja when fried is really addictive!

its ok actually i think its a very apt description when u describe the beef koay teow is similar to Vietnamese pho,, so we understand what it tastes like! everyone will understand more, coz Vietnamese pho is more internationally popular n more recognizable. also when i was living in london, all the msian restaurants always serve this dessert, hot pisang goreng topped with cold vanilla ice cream n drizzle honey.........soooo good, u guys must try this....however u can't really find this in msia itself, which is very strange but i tell u its so fantastic. even in cold winter we will always end our meal with this cold dessert !!! the hot n cold contrast is extremely delightful, coz in one bite, u burn ur tongue with the hot pisang goreng n at same time u get brain freeze from the cold ice cream ! hahaHA!!! n also the pisang goreng in msia is sweet like honey, coz u have to choose ripe bananas coz they're sweet, so when they fry it the sweet banana natural sugar caramelizes when u fry it! hmmmm.... mebbe thats why they have to add honey in the london goreng pisang dessert, coz the pisang isnt as ripe or sweet n msian ones. pisang goreng in msia is like art, u must use specifc type of ripened bananas n the batter is sooo delicious, a good batter will blend perfectly with the banana n most importantly its crispy!!!

Some add in coconut flakes too. Flour cannot be added too much or else the balls will lose the banana taste. As for the 2nd stall, yes you guessed correctly iChang... It's Nian Gao or Nian Koa. yes the driver is right, in Penang also famous for 'Penang Rojak'. Most all of the Rojak's black creamy paste is made in Penang. Please try Penang famous 'Penang Prawn Noodle', it is very rich in taste and it is one of the Signature food in Penang, a must eat if you're in Penang.

Personally I love Pisang Nangka for Fried Banana. Since I hate the too oily type, the fried pisang nangka has that rigid texture and less oily compared to most other types of banana

Kenzo's fried looks to be fried at higher temperature so less oily ; usually Pisang rajah variety is used and fried whole - it has a unique flavour.

They use different kinds of bananas . I think they use Pisang Abu or Pisang Awak for the first pisang goreng. That's why you got a lot for RM2. The second one is much more expensive as he uses Pisang Raja. There's also another kind of fritters. They mash up cooked ubi kayu (tapioca) with some sugar and coconut, shaped this into oblongs like pisang , dip into batter and fry. Nice.Enjoy!😄😊😉

Both are my fav banana fritters stalls.. Yes, I-chang got it right, the sticky glutinuous rice cake in between the sweet potato and taro is nin gou that we usually see during lunar new year.. and the second stall uses coconut oil to fry their fritters, you may taste the hint of coconut oil in the pisang goreng.. 😋
