I wish there was a tutorial series on how to set all of this up from scratch. From making the tracks to preparing and finally playing the live set itself.

There are plenty of tutorials on how to set up instruments to play live in Ableton or Maschine and linking with Traktor isn't difficult. And Icicle himself has many master-classes online, especially on KZbin so you can understand his process, watch the demo video on Icicle describing how he set up this set, and how he uses everything in this video on NI KZbin as well! 😊

with live performances there is not just one way and there is so many ways of doing it live. you can even have a daw on a laptop with the keyboard and some guitar pedals and anything really.

This comment section shows how completely and utterly ignorant people are regarding what it takes to design a stable, professional, scale-able and most importantly great sounding method of turning fully mixed / produced tracks and finding a way to perform them in a live environment. Especially when there is no standard. I can't count how many clueless morons showed up at a club with a shitty laptop and 30$ midi controller thinking they knew what was up. 90% couldn't even figure out how to work a real mixer, let alone plug in their unbalanced 2.5 jack cable from the laptops headphone out. They'd stand there and essentially hit the spacebar and let their 'selection' train wreck all over Ableton's session view. It happened weekly for a long time... the promoter needed an opener after all. What baffled me is not that they thought they were doing something talented, or hell even doing it correct. But they thought that shit sounded good! I bring up this TL:DR here because these comments remind me of those idiots. Yes he is using two D2s with stems. That is what D2s are for. Just like he says very plainly in the previous video, he stems out simple versions of his tracks, and runs them each through a channel on the mixer to give it the all important DJ vibe with leveling, cross fades, cuts and EQs. You know... the things that makes people dance? Oh wait from those comments you wouldn't know that. The individual tracks transitions / drum fills / sequences that aren't stemmed are being triggered on Maschine Jam pumped out on a 3rd channel. On top of that he's playing the individual tracks melodies live using the Virus ti as the sound source over the 4th channel. The Maschine MK3 with it's built in sound card handles routing and midi keeping all of that in sync. Oh, and it sounds Fu*(ing flawless. What you amateur performers / professional haters don't even grasp is all of that had to be engineered for plug and play - repeat performance in a variety of clubs. "Why is that important?" you belch. He designed it that way because that's literally the mixer installed in clubs around the world, and he'll be plugging into it at just about every single venue he'll play. Most every club he'll get booked ats standard mixer is a Pioneer DJM 2000 NXS.. the mixer he's using. I know the same ignorant people wont read this. If you had that sort of attention span you'd of realized your so called 'sets' sound like stir fried ass. But for anyone that was actually interested but didn't know exactly what was going on, ignore the grade school level comment section of haters. Reading this BOOK here still saved you some time.

Just to respond to some of the comments by confused souls who don't quite understand. That might look like a lot of gear to you, but that's not a lot of gear. In a blog post some years back about the "death of the DJ", Cameron Marlow writes how one-man live electronic performances used to travel with something like 2 Alesis MMT-8 sequencers, an Emax 2 rack sampler, an Oberheim Matrix 1000 synth, a Waldorf Pulse + synth, a Boss SE-50, and perhaps as many as four homemade Filterboxes. If you look at any one of the many live performing DJ artists like Richie Hawtin or Chris Liebing, they both perform with two computers, one for running Traktor and one for running their DAW. The last time I saw a video of him, Hawtin's performance only appeared limited by having just 4 Traktor decks to feed his mix, and Hawtin is sort of a minimal style techno artist. As for anyone mentioning costs, if you want to talk about costs, Hawtin's Antelope Orion 32+ AD/DA converter costs $3,000, and his Model One mixer goes for $3,300; you could buy three DJM-900NXS2's for that much money. With Ableton at least (haven't used the NI DAW), there are powerful plugins that use too much CPU and are impractical for live performances. You can bounce these tracks ahead of time, then mix them together during your performance for the creative effect. With Ableton, you could load these stems in Session view and trigger them, but frankly, mixing the volume levels, even with Push 2, is nowhere near what you get with the D2s. The D2s are live having an extra 8 channel mixing board, only with hot cue markers, looping, and DJ Fx. Besides, what if you want to mix in something you have in your song library that you didn't load into Session view ahead of time?

its not so much the gear, just the fact that he doesn't do anything with all that. it was lackluster and boring. Drum and Bass can be so rhythmless an repetitive, it's so suburban it's Hip Hop's boring suburban lame cousin. It doesn't matter how much equipment it's always going to be soulless, and drab.

Here here. And it's just gear! Great to see it used, but if you need 1 or 50 pieces to make your sound? Just keep working on making your sound! I own the Jam, Maschine, and Komplete Kontrol not because I want to show off with more gear, but because they each offer a different way to interface with sound. It's all a playground. Stop screaming from the side of the sandbox and jump in and make a castle people!

Really nice set. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm sorry that many musicians, both, male and female have to face so much hatred and evny when doing something good and sharing it with the world just because some individuals don't understand what they are doing or simply can't handle the fact that these musicians are getting the attention they deserve and they don't. It is right to be able to express criticism as long as it is construcive; even personal opinions like "I like it / I don't like it" are okay, even though these opinions are a bit too short and not particularly helpful when trying to engage people in a conversation. Many people here and I mean not only on this particular comment section but on many other videos of musicians here in KZbin are just nasty and offensive. They see someone doint a tutorial , ashowcase or a live set that they don't like for whatever reasons and they just start calling him/her names and belittering his/her work and saying nonsensical things like "this is not realy djing" etc. It's interesting to see that exactly these people fail to bring proof that they can do it better when asked to do so.

Hello realy awsome set up! 🥳 I have a question.... I've booted the Komplete Kontrol software "Komplete 12" with a S49 into a Traktor Pro 3 Live Input Deck. Works great but the software Komplete Kontrol does not receive the Midi Clock or does not sync to Traktor. Can not the Komplete Kontrol software be set to "slave" Midi Clock receiver, as the machine software is !? At least there is no selection box as with the machine software under preferences "Midi" "input". Question is there are other possibilities? Special hardware or software etc.? Or how do you did it? There is a smal Hardware in the Video but the Name is taped ☺️ can anyone help me? Thanks in Front. 🙏🏼

Install soundflower, set it up,correctly (your soundcard has to be included in the aggregated device (audio/midi setup) Open maschine as vst in ableton, route traktor into ableton (look on yt for this), then on your master in ableton use external audio effect and route the output to soundflower, and then in obs get all the sound in by setting your audio to soundflower, probably not clear enough explained, but broke my head on this so this is my 2cents peace

I think is just a show off of the gear. He is basically DJing with traktor and everything else seems premade like one could do with any DAW. These days, "live" should be manipulation of multiple synths and drum machines live, That is the whole point.
