This was one of the most practical videos on this topic. I learned a few things but d-star is not easy to learn and I still have a ways to go. I appreciate the effort. Can you do a video on making the ic-705 a hotspot?

I don't understand why you are doing so much things. I use an openSPOT3 hotspot. I just go to my hotspot frequency, change it to DV and I am good to go. No need to fake a repeater with duplex, no need to setup UR, R1 or R2. This is done by the hotspot and I just use DV as modulation.

I normally connect using my browser.in pi star. Or my os3 or ircddb remote. this is a very straightforward process that's why the video is short. A lot of people prefer to connect using the radio. it's a Also good to know how to use d-star connecting on Dr mode and memory mode like in this video.thx.

I'm using terminal mode to connect direct to XLX reflectors, though the onboard wifi. No hotspot or RF. It's abit like fusion PDN direct mode, without the need to have it tethered to a computer.

Question about the antenna coming off the left side of the ic-705. Most Dstar and DMR radios are HTs. If my 705 is hooked up to an external antenna on my roof via a coax run, would it be better for me to get a “rubber duck” antenna for my 705 when using my hotspot? I’ve only connected my 705 to external VHF UHF antennas.

Hi Brad, good question. Use anything that gives you a good SWR. In my tests with over 40 rubber duck type aerials. It is very hard to find one that works with the 705 on VHF UHF. So using anything and make sure SWR is good.

ICOM needs to add the Thermal Mode through Bluetooth like the Kenwood D75 Have, on the ID52A and the IC905, both have Bluetooth and this makes it much easier to connect to a laptop PC or Android Phone,

I will have a look at thermal mode not heard of that. Bluetooth is lacking on all these radios I have got three sets of wireless headphones and not one of the radios you mentioned above will connect to all of them

hi i copied your instructions excacly 4 time and my 705 willnot connect to dstar even on rx, surly you must have to do something first to connect ypur 705 to the internet before you can access dstar ?? when i put my callsing on mine it will not auto fill my callsign for repeater 1 and repeater 2 its jusyt blank, chris M1TRC
