Icom IC-7000 vs Yaesu FT-857d shootout

I had later discovered that I did not have the IF Shift on with the Yaesu and is why the tone was more sharp. I like running a little bit of negative shift on my radios.

Did you set the same BW of the filters on both radios? Anyway Icom sounds more smooth and more clear… DSP is more efficient on IF in Icom case.

The only thing is that the DSP units are radically different the Yaesu has an AF-DSP DSP is accomplished in the audio circuit and the Icom's DSP is accomplished in the IF circuitry. I have both radios, and enjoy them both, I found that the Icom has better tools for fighting interference than the FT-857. I'm not knocking either rig but in my opinion the IC-7000 is a better rig for voice SSB and CW, the FT-857 makes a better digital mode rig ( it's audio is harsh , leading to ear fatigue) again, just my opinion. Albeit I never equipped my FT-857d with a mechanical filter, I'm sure a set of mechanical filters would make a big difference with that rig .Both of these great rigs were retired to early.

I am inclined to agree. But I really like that I can press the "Tune" button and the ATAS just tunes me up without any fuss or muss. I use all ICOM in the house.

What kind of setup do you use for the 857D? Trying to figure out how to use mine as a base station but can't find much info on a good power supply. Seems like the LDG YT-100 is a common go-to tuner. Right now all I have is the radio, hand mike and a battery, but I'd rather not use the battery for benchtop use. Antennas are all loaners but I'm getting by.

These are just cheap non amplified speakers but they work well.

@@Sky1 . Почему вы предпочитаете трансивер icom??? У него звучание лучше, в смысле модуляции, при прослушивании речи? И речь из трансивера icom , мягкая и бархатная, среднечастотная, и не режет слух? А у трансивера Yaesu , модуляционная речь из динамика высокочастотная шипящая? И у вас уши устают слушать Yaesu?

The Icom sounds better, it has a quiter receiver, the 857 is known for being noisy

Yeah, I used to have the FT-100 it was way better receive wise

Icome 7000 and the 706 kick the yaesu 857 ass in transmit

Actually it was the icom that had known microphone audio problems not the Yaesu. Both are good when set right. But Yaesu has better modulation.
