Mine still works after nearly 40 years of service. I don't use it all that much and the pots (potentiometers) are a bit scratchy but it's on frequency and fairly versatile.

Those transceivers are great until the irreplaceable Optical Encoder fails then you have a non-tunable rig unless the serial data port in the back is utilized for computer driven frequency tuning. The other choice is major modification including metal cutting and adapter fabrication replacing the optical encoder with a non-stock unit. There's tons of information on the internet describing the failure mode of these devices which includes my non-tuning IC-735.

Never owned one, but these are great little rigs. Would have liked to see the PBT and notch tested.

I have had 3 of these rigs. Only issues of note are those darn plastic VCO trimmers that go bad, the power switch that fails, and the RCA cable jumper in the back that tends to break the circuit board jack if you pull it out. I had to replace all three on one of my rigs, but overall this is a fine little radio.

I'm getting one of these today that the guy says he "blew the finals" on. Hopefully I can get trans to work. If not it'll be a nice swl receiver for $150. 73 & thanks for your video.

This is my second rig after Uniden 2020, good rig, without the tune knoob, the infrared leds inside has to be changed, but now, works very well-

I run one of these as my HF rig...100% duty cycle!! And you can control the freq and mode via computer...I use an easy digi interface for digi modes...they are tough!!!

This a very good radio for is used value, work well in cw and phone, great tx audio and a loto of hiddem tuning tools :-) For example you can change the tone of the signal received turning an hidden screw under the case :D

A great classic Icom. I liked it better than the Kenwood 140S I had. Computer control is SLOOOOOW though....

I have an IC-735 and just purchased a bencher paddle to use on it. I am not that far into CW yet, so am probably missing something. But I connected the bencher to the Icom and cannot get anything to work. Is there something I need for the radio, something in the radio to be able to do CW?

I have the same setup. Push the bottom right tiny grey button, "speed key" also press "vox on". Without the vox you'll still get a side-tone good for cw practice oscillator. The speed of the CW is set by the slider on the far right, labeled Mic Gain at the top and "speed" at the bottom. AGC out (slow) and probably don't need full break-in on CW, hammers the relays.
