Is there any difference with these and the Icom 705 or new Yaesu FTX1? Ultimately I want to carry it around the house and listen for cool signals and reach out occasionally. The flex radio via Maestro seems like the best but I’m not sure if I want to spend $5K on my first radio for a hobby I’m unsure of. Would the receive, say an indoor antenna “signal stick” into a 705 vs 52a be any different? My ideal situation is listening and talking on the deck, kitchen, pool, in my guitar room…when ever a cool signal pops up (I don’t want to sit at a desk or do it while I drive, I want to interact with it like I do KZbin on my phone)

My D75 has great audio on everything. From air band to AM and FM broadcast. I use it for analog so far because I can't get the DSTAR to work with either Blue DV for Windows or the version for Android devices. Windows one uses the USB cable and the Android one work with Bluetooth. Lots of tutorials on how to set this all up but no tutorials for you if you have difficulties. And nobody on any forum has been of any help but they are nice to try to help. Back to the Audio, on analog my 75 sounds slightly better than my Yaesu VX-6 but I'd actually say my ancient Radio Shack HTX-202 (2 meter only) is the champ!! But it's a gigantic brick-sized monstrosity and so it has a bigger speaker than most modern handheld rigs. It also has a True FM demodulator (and transmitter) and even though everything is PM now PM sounds better on a true FM rig anyway!! Phase Modulation has pretty much taken over because it's cheaper and is compatible with FM.

Do any of these radios do power passthrough? Meaning, can you power these off the USB-C port without constantly draining the battery.

Thanks a lot, it was me asking for the audio comparison. The 75 sounds fine to me, more or less like the ID52 I'd say. Now I have another question: How is the audio in AM (Airband)? I have seen a small video from an user on Reddit that shows that the 75 is absolute garbage (quite no AM audio, just noise). I think his radio is defective, but who knows for sure?

No the 75 has very goodair band audio how can such a high end radio be garbage I will do a.video .

​@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Just because a radio product is expensive that doesn't necessarily guarantee exemplary performance on every band, it just means it's more likely to have. this is especially the case with HTs that have wideband receive. however obvious it may sound, it's optimised for 2m and 70cm.

The 75 has a more pleasant audio for listening in a quieter environment. The 52 has a more piercing audio.

All the digital modes, DStar, Fusion, DMR, they all sound like they all smoked some heavy pot. That’s why I never got into the digital modes “too much”. But 75 sounds a tiny bit less drunk/high to me.

I got into DMR in big part due to the Retevis RT73 not only being a DMR radio, but that it has a lot to offer as an analog radio. I figured I would get it for analog, and if I liked it for DMR, I'll take to DMR.
