+iconforhire Not meaning to criticise your choice in name for your group of fans, but wouldn't calling them 'Iconics' be a little nicer and more unique? Seems a lot of groups use the 'army' description and I guess I've just always disliked it. But in the end it's not about what we are called, but the appreciation of the music you produce and this one resonates due to its incredibly organic lyrics on an issue more often than not rammed down peoples throats when addressed. It's refreshing to see it be addressed (as of course it needs to be) in the right way. I look forward to seeing you guys live again someday. Hopefully headlining rather than supporting too!
@alyssagarrett69218 жыл бұрын
alot of women are missing the point of this song, saying crap like "I'm not like other girls, I don't flaunt my ass." you're proving the point of the song actually. everyone's focused on what the girl is doing. Is she being 'slutty'? Is she dressing 'respectively'? Does she act like a man or is she nice and polite? don't think you're special because you like sweatshirts. don't think you're basic because you like skirts and jewelry. There are no guidelines with being a girl, just wear what you want and don't concern yourself with what other people wear. it doesn't matter. it doesn't. so don't let men think you have to be different, and that being a 'normal girl' is something to be ashamed of.
@urbertshock97007 жыл бұрын
Spinny And yet you have also missed the point, nowhere in the song does it specifically mention men being the ones saying this stuff to women, it's not about a gender war, it's saying everyone is equal so you shouldn't "judge a book by its cover"
@alyssagarrett69217 жыл бұрын
Please re-read original post because it focuses on what women were saying to women and only said men once at the end for something else. Also, not to be rude, but it is about gender. Completely. This song is about gender. the opening line is "What it's like to be a girl in the music world." Almost every line is about women. You kind of contradicted yourself too at the end basically saying it's not a gender war, it's about both genders being equal. Unless you meant gender war being something other than what I thought you meant. But if that's the case then, again, my original post wasn't about men either.

normal is a mathmatical concept that has infected society, and it's entirely unattainable. Normal for me is wildly off from normal for any other humanoid out there, and trying to define ones self by that standard is actually abnormal in every sense of the term. Normal girls simply don't exist- the paradox behind the concept ensures that it remains that way perpetually. Rather than striving for a false ideal that is simultaneously impossible and will ensure endless misery, go out and be yourself until it no longer feels like a daily battle.

Honestly they just wanted to try out a style not comparative their normal rock sound in which they were constricted to being on a label whereas now they are independent. Thank you Icon For Hire for making a song that states what I've been teaching my daughters and my son since they were little... be who you choose, don't conform to the world's ideals, and show them what you can do in spite of them. The mass media is horrible when it come to the image of a lady. I'm still deeply scarred by the way I was shaped into thinking my appearance is my most valuable asset, when I have so much more in me that makes me who I am. I'm always sickened to my core when I hear guys drooling over the way a female singer looks, they never even think about how they're judging her and not even considering the work she put into her talent or into the song.

Grow up, its their music, their experiments, their music taste, their life. So hard to understand? It shouldn't be. At least they haven't stuck with one boring sound. At least they can think outside the box. Unlike you all
@infinite.improbability79178 жыл бұрын
+Horváth Gábor Well said. I was thinking that too as I read the comments. Icon is evolving as a band. Listen to the latest REL show... she experiments with different sounds and refines the music. Personally, this isn't my favorite Icon song but I still like it. I like the message. Not to worry, the old Icon isn't gone..
@itsbreadbin8 жыл бұрын
+Horváth Gábor While everything you've said is true, this song is awful in my opinion. Not a fan at all. What's up with the salty lyrics too? You realise Pop music is dominated by women right? As for Rock or Metal, literally no one cares if a band has a female vocalist. This song is garbage.
@gabi33928 жыл бұрын
+Breadbin Massacre She might have deeper reasons to write this song, it's personal just like others.Women, in pop (especially) are getting judged by everyone if they got on the top. The song itself is surely different, it really doesn't belong anywhere in their Disco, but Ariel knows why she had to write and release it.
@vetaroundworld8 жыл бұрын
+Horváth Gábor Yeah, a month or so back I got to talk to them about it. They were totally cool about it too. I admitted to not liking the poppy synth beat on either this and Bam Bam Pop. The lyrics for them both are pretty on point for the chosen subject and I have no objection to that. They told me they were experimenting and I can totally respect that. Even if I don't enjoy this particular upcoming album if it's too poppy, I may likely enjoy the following album. It's like NIN for me, loved Pretty Hate Machine, Downward Spiral, and The Fragile, absolutely hated With Teeth, then Year Zero was ok and Hesitation Marks felt like a much better direction to me. Like I said, they were totally cool about my 'criticisms,' of course prior flattery probably helped there. Whether I enjoy this album or not will have no bearing on their past or future albums. I may just have to keep an eye on them for the next album instead of jamming out to them on this one. Either way, Shawn and Ariel are very awesome and open people. I won't dump the band completely for what *I, personally* don't like from one song or one album. That's just stupid.
@itsbreadbin8 жыл бұрын
Horváth Gábor And men aren't getting judged? I'm not a fan of Kanye West in the slightest, but have you seen how slated the guy is? In Metal, Metallica get hate and slate no matter what they do. Look at Justin Biber. He could end world hunger and people would still hate the guy. It's not even just the lyrical content I'm not fond of, musically this is probably the most generic piece of music I've heard in a while. It's a shame because I really enjoy this band. No idea what happened here.

+Keori Katsumi Tooth & Nail was not only limiting them on what they could or couldn't say, they were also screwing them. They were not paying them, the white vinyl that the label released...the band had NO idea and were not told about it, and seen NONE of the money from it. The label was not helping them at all, and expected the band to pay THEM before they were gonna be allowed to record any more music or videos. That is why is had been so long since they made a video. So they wanted out for a while, and finally got out the middle of last year, and then recorded the EP right away, then did Warped tour, and now a new video, and have a new album coming pretty soon...so getting away from the label was the best thing for them.

And although a HUGE percentage of music listeners, listen to a band because they have a particular sound. Which is exactly why I stopped listening to Paramore, while the band is amazing, I don't listen to pop because I don't care for it. And although Icon is exploring their creativity and expanding their audience, they WILL lose listeners who don't enjoy this type of music. For example, Jay-Z has millions and millions of fans, but I think he sucks balls. (that last sentence has nothing to do with any of this, I just like saying that "Jay-Z sucks balls"

@cacharadon74608 жыл бұрын
+Nick Colley you don't seem to understand how statements made from positions of power can affect how those statements are perceived. What would you think if a teacher told one of his/her students that they were hot? How would your reaction change if it was the student that tells the teacher that they find him/her hot? It's the same deal here. For all our progress, men are still seen as the dominant gender. It's why an ugly man can sell himself based on his vocal chords or talents but and ugly woman is laughed off the stage. There needs to be a certain standard of appearance when you are an entertainer, but you can't deny the fact that the discrepancy with which those standards are applied across the gender spectrum is anything but progressive.
@nickcolley38988 жыл бұрын
Send me a video of an ugly woman being laughed off the stage. The fact of the matter is that women claim they want equality but still want to be treated like little princesses too. You can't have it both ways. Your Third Wave Feminism ruins the workplace, creating environments where women are hired for their gender and not their minds or talents. Most of the gender discrepancies as far as societal standards go are placed by other women, not men. But ugly women need something to blame I guess. Go dye your armpit hair pink or something.

I have forever been obsessed with this song since you first released it. This music video is incredible and I'm so happy you all are making the music you want to make! I'm sending this to practically everyone I know. I can't wait for more Icon For Hire in the future!

Right. I can't believe some people don't like this song. The message is so powerful and has always been their style.

same here given I want to be a singer, she was my first girl crush, and I crushed on her after the audio came out, she is amazing in all of the ways a woman can be amazing. Icon For Hire is the first rock band with a girl singer that I ever liked.

***** All I said was that I couldn't believe some people didn't like the song. I've been over it boo. I'm not worried because they'll still make music. So.... Go somewhere.

I love how you experiment with new sounds and ideas as time goes along rather than sticking to a formula. I mean sure, I am more rock oriented and maybe your old sound is better for me personally, but I love this song and I love that you are willing to take this risk to stick to your own ideals rather than try to please your loyal fanbase with the same kind of stuff. Keep being awesome! :)

I love the message behind the music, I cant really get into rap music, but sure as hell can respect it. I've been an IFH fan for a while and I think its ballsy af and hard to go independent. Keep making awesome music but dont forget your roots!!
@iratami8 жыл бұрын
this song does make me kind of wonder what it's like in the music industry. I've seen a hand full of documenteries that basically say it's awful. kind of curriouse if that the general consesus from IFH as well?

But was it really kidnapping sense the child was willing, and got in the vehicle without force being used?
@FizzyNightShade8 жыл бұрын
+Luna Shadow panda by definition, it's only kidnapping if it's by force and the child is taken and held unlawfully like for ransom. So, technically, they didn't kidnap her.

+Akasha Seijouruu If they started singing Death Metal or Grindcore would you be like "Who cares? It's good music."
@CaffeineMolecule8 жыл бұрын
+Akasha Seijouruu "Who cares? It's good music" Define good music, I think Melodic death metal and Thrash metal is good music but most people don't think that's good music. When people complain about her new music, it's because they don't like pop or electro pop. People have a right to complain about her new music because they started off as a hard rock band, so her rock fans won't like her new music because it's not rock. It's not something they like. So by saying "Who cares? It's good music" is retarded. Not everyone is going to think your taste or my taste in music is good. Her new music is so different that most rock fans won't like.
