Net Zero and Passive House building techniques should be incorporated into all new buildings. Every building needs to be air sealed and have a blower door test to find and seal air leaks. An energy efficient building saves money on utilities and is more comfortable.

How the HELL did they get any of that through Council? Who did they pay off? It is IMPOSSIBLE to get anything reasonable, let alone original passed by the Sydney City Council, or most of the other Sydney Councils. Ordinary citizens have no hope.

What annoys me about programmes like this and Grand Designs is that almost 100% we have to look at 'one off' designed houses. Not a row of well designed houses or an model estate. Just a selection of indulgent crap and I'm sick of it. Meaningless to millions.

these one off's are often hard to build and costly to maintain. One off means very custom. Designs have a duration of time and then things move on to a newer style. No more all wood or all concrete or all windows or plenty of exposed beams. People want a style that is the opposite and fresh.

Absolutely terrible. Typical snotty nose upper class thing… let’s not waste our time with the house designs that real people actually live in. Let’s, by one’s own admission, round up a few ‘famous’ name architects, and chin chin, bottoms up. What a waste of time. The show has no historical context whatsoever. The ‘curator’ appears to be annoyed be in Australia. Why not actually look at real architecture, and discuss why the designs are the way they are, availability of ‘cheap’ materials, climate, needs of the buyers, budget etc. what a disappointment. Iconic. Whatever.

Actually, I think you'll find on researching the matter, that Australian houses had tiled and fully fitted bathrooms long, long before it became commonplace in Britain. What a pity you have no knowledge of the place, clear from you crass comment.

My great-grandfather built his house in the outer suburbs, a 50-minute drive to Melbourne, with electricity and plumbing in 1918. It started becoming the norm for new builds from then, and most houses had electricity by1950.
