The UK had its own tricycle for disabled people - the Invacar. It had a 493cc Sachs flat-twin engine with CVT and handlebar controls that you press down for braking. The Hubnut channel here on KZbin rescued one from a field and got it working again - well worth a look

I am surprised that those 2-stroke Velorex don't produce exhaust smoke like the Trabant does. The Jawa engine is a 2-stroke so it should make exhaust smoke too...!?

I bet that they're using smokeless 2 stroke oil. Also the use of modern synthetic oil means that the premix ratio can be lowered due to higher lubricating properties compared to old mineral based oils thus 2 stroke engines producing less smoke ;).

У нас от трехколесной мотоколяски для инвалидов отказались еще в конце 50х. Слишком уж неустойчивая конструкция для людей с ограниченными возможностями. Для инвалидов были четырехколесные мотоколяски СЗД разных модификаций с начала 60х годов и тоже с двухтактными двигателями, но запускалась она с обычного стартера.

The Velorex is awesome! I do remember a motion picture on the central TV channel, it was some interesting Czech Republic film, and there was the Velorex like that! That was a subject of adoration to have such one, but they were not exported to the USSR... :(
