Notice that even if you somehow manage to get him pass the door, the next block is too high for you to carry royal. So the developer make sure royal die on that station

Poor Royal. When he tries, thing go wrong, and sometimes, that's not even his fault. He messes up a lot, but always in a good intention. To me, Royal is the perfect illustration of the expression: "Hell is paved with good intentions".

I don't think a choice in a video game has ever fucked me up like leaving Royal. The Boss? Sure that sucked for Snake, but I never really knew her. You spend the whole game seeing Royal slowly grow and it's cut tragically short
@CryingZombie6667 жыл бұрын
Well, as it's painful for the player to abandon Royal, he has to be an example of being crushed by one's own hubris. He's arrogant, he's egotistical and he's always in denial. Pride is his downfall, much like Magnus' from Warhammer 40k. Both are too prideful and egotistical to admit their own mistakes, always wanting to prove others that they're right or in the right. And in the end, it's them who bring it all upon themselves. However, we are able to sympathize with both, and it's because they both mean well. They both are loyal; Royal, to Robin, and Magnus to the Emperor in particular and the Imperium in general. They try to do right all the time, but then, everything blows up in their face. It's tragic beyond heart-wrenching.
@Erk12345677 жыл бұрын
StygianTraveler141 a tragedy is a pretty good summation of the game's plot in general. Robin's traits that are admirable in other Adventure games/Metroidvanias: a lust for adventure and a desire to help strangers, backfires entirely. Samus destroys a planet to save the Galaxy. Robin plays a vital role in nearly destroying hers
@CryingZombie6667 жыл бұрын
Erk1234567 I think Samus is driven by responsibility, whereas Robin is by self-obligation. I mean, Samus had to face a lot of different foes, and it’s not because she wanted to go on an adventure, for she’s the best at what she does: Kick asses and take names. Robin’s father died helping people; after his death, Robin felt that she needed to continue what he’s started. She’s the classic hero archetype, selfless, brave and determined. Not that Samus doesn’t have those, but she’s a different breed altogether.
@Erk12345677 жыл бұрын
StygianTraveler141 I was thinking more in terms of the player controlling both characters. You're right, Robin's traits are more classically heroic. A better comparison would be Link or Guybrush where helping others always leads to a beneficial outcome

Erk1234567 Yeah, Link would be it then.

the most interesting thing about royal to me was always that he DOES believe he should help the people he meets, his fundamentally good heart is clashed with as black accurately put it, him being badly raised. he doesn't even get rude until he feels slighted, and even then he does not just cause an explosion under mortal people.
@frydfish49345 жыл бұрын
God I hate seeing him fail his arc. Not only cut short, but he was too weak to complete it in the first place and you couldn't expect anything else from someone in that situation.

It just, feels so unfair..... seeing him go so far, and grow as much as he did, to see him just giving up on life all the way up at the moon... What gets me the most is he's just gone after that. He doesn't even get anything in the credits dedicated to him, except maybe a singular shot of the moon he died on.... I feel so bad for Royal.... :(

I've been told that if you aren't nice to Royal throughout the game, by picking mean dialogue choices, he sits on the opposite side of the rocket from Robin :( hurts just a little bit. And you know, I've seen the argument that Royal's death was deserved, and to a degree I understand why the dev made that choice thematically, but character development is not a straight line. Royal's lived this way for years, and nobody gets over the thought patterns that have been impressed into them since they were a child immediately. Wouldn't you also be frustrated if you went through everything he did, had your entire identity ripped out from under you, risked your life along with one of the few people who's ever been kind to you, only to be ignored *again?* I'd be frustrated too.

wouldn't have mattered so the feature wasn't available to use on him since what would you use to replace yourself when you have taken royal to the other side? Yeah , the dev planned that.

@@ozlmyasar4766 The detector on the left side is broken. The detector on the right side is the one that opens the door, but it's too far away for you to be able to walk through the door before it closes. If you were to use the usurper gun in this situation, you would inevitably trap Robin on the right side, killing both Royal and her.

I really feel like the final part of Royal's story would have been better if leaving him hadn't been this weirdly contrived 'but thou must' gameplay situation. I'm not saying he should have died in a cutscene or anything but the 'hanging panel' thing was silly. I found myself more angry that the game was arbitrarily stopping me from using the 'teleport to swap places with an object' gun that it had given me so that I was forced to leave him than I was sad about leaving him lol

this choice made no sense when i saw it :S at least logic wise , she could have putted the plate inside royal's jacket or even made sure the panel turned towards him. Also have you noticed there was a ladder in the corridor ? My guess is that the developers DID put a way to save royal the hard way if u wanted by using the switch gun , teleport him to the other side and then using some sort of underground corridor to pop up where the capsules are but then cutted out the entire thing ... AND EVEN with that this choice still makes no sense because of the first solution. Good game but some points needed to be flashed out a little more
