How come the first step in ICP management be the CSF drainage prior to sedation?

How can one Drain CSF @ External auditory canal? I´d rather lay my ventriculostomy drains at Kochers or Frazier point.

My guess is cuz they don't need to be sedated to drain CSF. Well atleast they never sedate me when they drain me.
