[Apologies for the destabilized first half. The smart phone tries to be too smart whenever it updates and turns settings on and off... 🙃]
This is actually from a while ago when we still had snow -- a two-session piece. What a treat to have the same conditions on the two days I have off!

That scene is begging to be painted. I am a wimp, I can't paint in cold, lol. Love these and amazing as always. Keep up the great work

Thanks, Cincy! Cold is definitely a challenge, and movement is hard when you wear all the clothes you own. 😆☃️

I really enjoy your videos Jennifer. I tend to be a perfectionist which hinders my painting. Watching you made me realize I need to loosen up & stop painting what is there but to paint what I see.

Oh boy, perfectionism is a hard mental challenge to overcome! The time constraint of plein air helps me a bit because there's no time to be perfect. lol But when I take pieces back home, it's hard not to pick out all the mistakes... 🫤 May we all overcome the restraints of perfectionism! 🙏

I think the decision to make the water more blue was a good one...to counter the orange in the building. The background trees are just the right value! Love this painting. 🙌 Thanks for sharing your time in the field. Very enjoyable to watch (and inspiring).

Thanks, Maggie! It was very helpful to have the space of an evening to see what I needed to fix and then have a whole other day to fix it. Glad it's inspiring. Warmer weather is coming! Get out there!! 🙌🙌

Dickens, murky depths, contamination, why is there never enough time, etc. You went full existentialist on us here. The painting is wonderful!

Should I be worried about you for reading all the existential angst into this? I was only experiencing the ever-present artistic angst, which isn't nearly as bad. lol

Oh, you should definitely be worried about me. I'm not referred to as "the dark side" by Clarkson students for nothing. Artistic angst yields great work.

@user-df5zp9ui8u Well, I should certainly hope the students are smart enough to know you haven't crossed over to that side and they shouldn't shoot the messenger! Rooting for you from afar. 💜

Yes, we can change, when I see that snow, ahh I've never seen it in person, keep painting more scenes like that when it appears, it will ease my desire to walk in it a little (even if it's freezing haha)@@Jennifer_Sampson_Art

Very nicely done, and I appreciate you including me in the pronoun with you at the end, as in "We did good!" At that moment, I was feeling pretty accomplished. A second later, I remembered I hadn't actually done anything, except watch, which of course you made both enjoyable and informative. I notice the water in this reads a little abstract one moment, and murky-watery the next. I think you should get some kind of award for tackling elusive, challenging subject matter.

We did do it! I'm not out there talking to myself, you know. lol I find making these keeps me accountable, to get out there and produce something post-worthy, so it's a group effort. 😆🙌

Fabulous movement effect in the eddy portion as well as adding the touch of blue to the water! I think, leaving the background in discriminate, keeps your eye focused, and all the foreground
@Jennifer_Sampson_Art

I did indeed leave it! I agree with you -- it would distract from the foreground. Thanks! 🙌

Rob Pointon for sure. Perhaps you're also familiar with Peter Brown (I'm sure you are). IMHO no one paints wet pavements (sidewalks) like Peter Brown. Also the way in which he leaves swathes of ground untouched is lovely too. And a lovely calligraphic, immediate touch. Lovely painting btw Jennifer. The water is particularly well-observed. Great stuff!

OMgosh, don't get me started fangirling about Peter Brown. I agree with all of that. I recently found one of his books on eBay, and it is amazing. Truly masterful. To someday be half as competent as he is, painting all those complex scenes... 😍🤩🥹

Another brilliant British artist of the same genre as Rob Pointon is Peter Brown, often called Pete 'The Street' as he's often seen plein air painting the streets and architecture of places like Edinburgh, London and Bath in all conditions.
