Ever since PME (protective multiple earthing or TNC-S) was utilised in the 80's, the risk of elevated voltages on different exposed conductive parts has increased. It is for this reason equipotential bonding is necessary. Neutral and Earth a marshalled together at the meter position (as well as the substation) and therefore the installation earth potential (that being the same as the neutral ) can be a number of volts different to true earth potential.

the requirement of the equpotential bonding is clearly on the out let pipe from the meter , so I think it should be there to protect what ever inside the property regardless the inlet pipe or before the meter installation . if not there I think it should classify as AR and Not RIDDOR

Interesting about bonding 18th edition amendment 2 dose not required bonding on incoming services to the building if they are plastic. However if no bonding on water mains any current leakage under ground could travel through water also so if no bonding current could be present on boiler body before travel through earthing from a spur but if you disconnected power supply and bonding the appliance body becomes live. Also there is a major issue where problem was found the nutreal on electricity supply become faulty the current found way through earthing path. So there was gas explosions cause by that and they found fault where on gas pipe 35A has been recorded .

Hi Derek Great videos. Would you be able to do more videos on Unsafe Situations and how to best classify them. Are there any techniques to better identify them or is it just literally a case of keep practicing and revising? I did well in this video but struggled on part 1. Any help would be great on how to best revise. Thanks for all your other video as they've helped loads.

Hi Derek great videos, Can you make more videos like this as it does help. I got a questions does fly screen on a vent does that reduce air so you need a bigger vent or no? thanks
@tomkatgastraining Жыл бұрын
No you can’t use a vent with a fly screen because it can get blocked by insects and spiders webs.

Strange IET electrical regulations state that if there aren't any extraneous conductive parts on the incoming mains and the incoming underground pipe is of non conductive material then no equpotential bonding is required. However according to BS 7671 regulations differ stating PEB must be fitted within 600 mm and before the first T branch in pipework. I can't understand why regulations differ through both industries. I'm completely for the installation of PEB however other electricians would argue that IET regs differ 🤷♂️. If on the Ecv there's a red ring present this indicates no PEB required. If there's no red ring downstream of the ECV then install a PEB clamp. It should be just below the ECV in any case.

Hi Derek regarding earth bonding on gas meters if its a propathene gas service coming in that will not act as an earth conductor but regardless the earth bonding on the gas meter is 10mm goes back to the Earth block on the consumer unit and will offer protection if gas appliances go to earth and incidentally RCD s will not operate if you do not have good earth, regarding flueless gas fires an engineer fitted one about ten years ago and never checked the operating pressure which was double what it should have been, The oxy pilot failed to operate because an air vent fitted close to the appliance fed fresh air to the pilot the result was the death of an 18-year-old girl and her dog overcome by monoxide fumes due to incorrect operating pressure the Installer was sentenced to 3 years in jail I think the minimum distance for ventilation to a flueless gas fire is 1 metre from the appliance but after learning about that Incedent my company no longer fits them.

Brilliant video. I did better in this one than I did in part 1 😎. At 14:15 when talking about the flueless space heater and how it should be at least 1 metre away from a vent, how about a door? I saw this type of flueless space heater installed in a hallway not to far away from the main door to the house. What are the requirements for that? Thanks Derek. Much appreciated 👍🏻 Asian Jon. Training.
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
The door is not that much of a problem because it’s closed most of the time and it’s a big area. The ventilation being too close is a problem because it could stop the ASD shutting down and make the room vitiated.

Medium pressure gas meter has an open end on outlet 🤔 is that no ID? 🤔

15 Min into vid the gas meter has open end and you've classed it as ar and not Id 😮... the medium pressure one ..
@tomkatgastraining Жыл бұрын
The question was about medium pressure inside a property not about an open end on a gas pipe. I said at the beginning of this section it represents not this is what you find so a medium pressure meter inside a property is AR. For your information there is a disk in the meter outlet also so still no open end.
