Love this video (just like all your stuff). The point you made about how in essence you can get the lower end of the range and not feel like you are getting shorted is a really astute one. It's amazing how they have evolved the same shell into so many different offerings and price points for such an extended period of time. For me, the Classic Medium Duoface Small Seconds on the brown leather strap...That's an incredible timeless blend of dress, sport, and functionality.

Dare I add: Patek Philippe quality for Rolex money.
@user-wi9nn6dz8w5 жыл бұрын
Maybe in terms of overall quality and technical significance but certainly NOT in terms of movement finishing which is mostly hand finished by Patek and mostly machine finished by JLC. I gave my wife to look at the movements of my JLC Master and my Patek Calatrava. She doesn't know anything about movement finishing but she said the Patek movement looks nicer and "more professional".
@domokun9385 жыл бұрын
@@user-wi9nn6dz8w agree with you. JLC are the king of movements (maybe Lange a close second), but in terms of finishing Patek definitely triumphs. It's ok though, for the price i think i'd take JLC triple calendar moon over a Rolex sub.

When I pass my JLC dealer, it’s the Reverso I look at first. Usually the Tribute to 1931 if there is one in the window. It is such a perfect little package. As you say, the watches case and lugs blend into the strap almost seamlessly giving the rectangular form a subtlety yet a noticeable presence on the wrist. The blued hands against the white dial of the classic Reverso looks so classy and amazingly legible. The Duofaces are just a treat and as for the Tourbillons, well, they truly are wonders. It really is an enthusiasts watch. One I would love to own in the future. Yet again, you’ve managed to score a try for the Boks with this brilliant video. Great work my friend. ✊

It took me quite a few decades of lusting after the Reverso to finally find a model that fit my 7-9/16" wrist, and even larger hands. I finally did with the right fit with the Reverso Grand 976, which is sadly now discontinued. This Reverso is a pseudo sports/dress watch not only because of its history, but in this model due to its quite rugged movement. The 976 hand wound movement is based on the JLC 975 "Autotractor" sports movement [an automatic] and has a free sprung balance, full balance bridge and double laser welded hairspring, plus a 48 hour power reserve. Additionally, it has a quick hour set complication making it a great travel watch... A very practical watch. The added bonus is the display case back showcasing the wonderful movement.
@ID-Guy5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this Curtis. The 976 looks absolutely gorgeous! The balance of the numerals on the dial looks a lot better (I should say the "spacing" between the numerals) Continue wearing it good health and I hope you enjoyed the watch show today!

Sir do you sleep much! Another excellent video in a such short time period! JLC I feel is like the watch connoisseur's brand as much as they were the watchmaker's watchmaker. My favourite brand is Cartier, but JLC comes close second. They're almost antithesis to each other in terms of how they approach watch making IMO, but that's what makes them so appealing to me. The Reverso is definitely on my grail list, though their other watches catch my interest so often too (their limited edition Polaris had me in fever for weeks recently). Though there is one point I would like to make; I'm not sure exactly what causes it but sometimes when I see one worn, they don't always look right. I think it mostly comes down to the wearer wearing too large of a watch but they look a lot less elegant sometimes. Perhaps it is the lugs, they elongate the watch a lot more than they look, or the rounded edges that make the watch look a lot larger than they are. Maybe it's the proportion of the rectangle, or perhaps the thickness. I'm not sure, the Tank and its many iterations never looked too jarring if they are worn oversized but the Reverso seems to stand out extremely if you get the proportions wrong.

I tried the Reverso Tribute Small Seconds at our local JLC AD earlier today. I'm shopping for a birthday watch, and I thought I was 99% decided on a specific Grand Seiko (I'm a fan). I must say that the Reverso changed my mind - once it was on my wrist, all my negative self-talk about 'a small watch' and a 'rectangle watch' disappeared. I'm relatively new to this hobby and trying on the Reverso... I felt the weight of all the history and design pedigree all at once. Watches truly evoke emotions - and this piece certainly did that for me. Now, to save a little bit more...

I’d like JLC to. 1. Make every Reverso dual-dialed. 2. It would present its challenges, but wouldn’t it be cool if they could make it an automatic?!? Never tell a watch maker that it can’t be done! 3. Offer 20+ dial colors, styles, dial printing and hardware options. 4. Allow the customer to choose which dials the watch reverses to as well as the strap and stitching. Make mine the rouge dial, blued steel dial hardware and printing reversing to a blue dial, red-fired bronze dial hardware and matching burgundy dial printing with a navy gator strap with burgundy stitching that matches each dial. Or perhaps a salmon dial, blued steel dial hardware and printing reversing to a forest green dial. Offering lots of options like that would make each customer feel like they’re getting something bespoke!

I wish JLC could bring back the failed Reverso Squadra in a slightly smaller size (amd with a more thoughtfully designedsteel bracelet).
