Ride it again! I bought a house west of Boise years ago but can't move until this fall, but you've gotten me very excited for the back-country opportunities there. I have a plated WR, but plan on trading my street bike for an ADV bike, largely motivated by your videos! I look forward to doing some of the BDR routes and doing some fishing in those beautiful rivers! Thanks for the motivation and keep up the good work!

Aw man, sorry to hear. Was thoroughly enjoying the series. The IDBDR is definitely on the short list to complete. An idea for a consolation ride (instead of repeating, the IDBDR, which would still be awesome): Have you ever ridden the "Tour of Idaho" route? Specifically the T3 route for dual sports. They say it's appropriate for all but the largest ADVs (some rather technical terrain), but much of it looks oh so scenic!!

Well Kyle, that leaves you with only one thing left to do. Re do the Idaho BDR. 😁 You said yourself that that series is the one most watch. As a businessman, that should tell you that you should do another. Besides, its not like it is a bad ride. The wife and I did, or tried to do section 7 this last weekend and got lost, navigation died, we froze in the tent due to temps dropping to freezing, the bike almost didn't start in the morning, none of my video worked and missed landscape and a head on encounter with a moose, and all of this 2 up. Still fun, but nervous. We were by ourselves. But we made it out alive. 😀

I’ve done pictures and video, for a living, my whole life. When doing an important project, I always copy the files to an external hard drive AND keep the files, on their original cards, until I have the project done and delivered. It takes a bit of organizing but it is worth it in the long run.
@backcountryadvmoto
@backcountryadvmoto 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, since this problem I double back up my work every night at camp. When I get home I then transfer a copy to another hard drive. 3 copies may be overkill, but I know I’ll never have this problem again. Thanks
@ronalvey103
@ronalvey103 2 жыл бұрын
The key part is keep the original cards (I place them in a separate bag, with a note in the bag, what job it is), and don't use them for anything else. Of course, you have to have a boatload of cards....but they are relatively cheap.

As an IT guy and also a moto vlogger this is one of my worst nightmares. I have a server rack in my basement with a 12 disk raid 6 array that holds all of my footage since 2013. Two disks can fail before any loss occurs. Also, when I go on a multi day trip I keep my footage on my SD cards and also copy it off at night to a portable SSD via my tablet. You could say I'm a little insane about it, but so far so good. If I can be of any help, let me know. How exactly did the SSD "crash"?

Probably got some OCD kickin in there, but I do feel a lot more secure after hearing your horror story. Used to be stuff like that was only lost in fires or water damage. Now, a simple failure of a device means the end of it all.

Sometimes there are ways to recover data on damaged drives. There are places that recover data for a fee. It depends on how much the data is worth to you. Is it worth $1000? If so, I believe they can do it for far less than that. Sometimes portions of data will be lost but you can get most back. I had this happen to me with some work data that I spent a lot of time on. In that case, it was a no brainer to pay some money to get what I could from the damaged drive. And I was happy with result. I got 95% of the data recovered if I remember right. Good luck.

might be in the comments below...but there are companies ($$) that can recover data from a drive. Some techy dudes in Israel, or some teen-ager in his mom's basement. I've done it. Not cheap, but recovered some photos. It's all good. Keep riding and filming.

You have so many blessings people would cry if they had just a little of it . You have beautiful family friends land work ethic abilities and talent from God . I just lost my mother in law to a mistake in a surgery . She should be recovering and soon to come home but she died last night . No my sweetheart has lost her mother and I feel a great loss also . It's okay about the harddrive . These crappy things happen . We all look forward to your videos and you'll come out with some great ones in the many years left you have riding . I missed out on several properties because I was waiting for the right time to go look at them . All but 3 or so are still on the market so it's back to surfing the web again for months maybe . My main problem is buying land in California . I love the land and hate the politics . So I am kinda trapped . Don't want to give a cent to any tyrant government any liberal establishment elitists or any business that complies with tyranny and it's almost impossible not to do . Anyway I would love it if Texas became independent and Southern Oregon Northern California and Idaho made a new Declaration of independence abidding and true Constitutional state .
