Boring is getting to be just about my speed. As I’m getting older, I find large cities to be ridiculously fast paced, and enjoy the comfortable refuge of small towns. The history of these places is simply fascinating.

I live in Pocatello, Born and raised. I have lived in other places, but Pocatello seems to always draw me back somehow. It's so nice to get up in the morning and look out the window to see the beautiful mountain view. Yes, it is a boring town but it is a unique place for sure. I'm surprised you didn't show more of the university campus. It has many historic buildings and the Holt Arena, the first domed college stadium in the world. It would have also been nice to see you visit the Portneuf Wellness Complex and amphitheater, rather than showing so much of the clean museum. That said, I really enjoyed your spotlight of my hometown!

@@SinghCapital You should make it a destination sometime rather than just driving through, especially if you appreciate natural beauty. We have that in abundance here. You need to get off the interstate to see the real Idaho though. My nephew lives in Spokane. Nice city.

Looks chill like Omaha, though even quieter. I think I could settle down there if I wanted to move and yes I say the same thing to Joe all the time though no response spend more time in the city and actually explore it now that you have been on for over a year and did all the quick run thrus.

Have you ate at the Taco Time there? It use to be an old radio station & my Dad helped build it. The building was in the back & they brought it closer to the road on a new foundation. He even changed the original floor plan to accommodate the restrooms & put the walk in cooler closer to the the drive-thru window. He slept in the basement & it was fun to visit him where I would sit on a saddle & eat a toco. He even turned an old gas station in Blackfoot into a Taco Time. Also restored the Taco Time in Rexburg after the Teton dam flood. I’ve been to the house of clean but didn’t go in because it was closed. I delivered an old vacuum that my Aunt donated. Only time I ever stop in Pokey is getting gas on my way to Montana for a family reunion.

Spent some time in Pocatello back in 1988, on a student exchange. Went to Pocatello High School (9:41). However, I was there in winter. Everything gray. Nice to see Pocatello as it looks in summer.

"The Railroad" is the Union Pacific and Pocatello is a major division point and yards--and a very nice train station. It was built in the 1880s as a branch of UP's transcontinental mainline connecting Wyoming to Oregon and Butte, MT. Legend has it that the local Indian chief liked pork and tallow the settlers brought in, so his nickname was "Pork'n'tallow."

Boring is better than living in a tourist trap with a high cost of living just because of the increase in people moving into a once slow and peaceful Village. We finally sold our historic home and moved into the country with lower property taxes, less traffic, quiet and safer. Anyone remember the "Green Acre" television program well that is us today...God Bless and have a very Merry Christmas everyone.

I live in Pocatello, actually I live on the Indian reservation, but my address from the post office says Pocatello. I love the peaceful pace. I ride a dirt bike, and quads, there are some beautiful ATV trails all around Poky, and in Idaho in general. I suppose that if you are the kind of person that needs to be entertained, Poky might seem boring. However, if you like the outdoors, you will love it here except for winter. Today it is suppose to get up to 39 degrees. Last night it was 13 degrees. I was riding my quad on an ATV trail 4 years ago, and in a straight line, I was only 1 mile from Poky. I came around a corner and there standing in the trail was the biggest Bull Moose I had ever seen. I did not know what to do, so I turned off the quad and just sat there. He looked at me and then moseyed away, without a care in the world. He was as big as a horse!! I have lived in Oregon (Born there) Washington, Nevada, California, and Idaho. My favorite 2 states are Idaho and Nevada. We don't have homeless pooping in the streets or living on the sidewalks here. We do have a little crime here, but not as bad as the big cities. 3 years ago I finely had to start locking up my shop. I was sad about that!!!

What a lovely interesting town, loved all of the signs on the buildings and the historic street lighting. It's about the same size and population as my town in the UK. However it was the story of the theatre that hit home. Here is a cut and paste from an article about one here, the similarities are remarkable. The Regal Super Cinema opened on 31st May 1937 with Will Hay in “Good Morning Boys”. Seating was provided for 1,000 in the stalls and 350 in the circle. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. In late-1963 it was closed to enable the stage to be enlarged and the installation of equipment from the closed New Theatre. It re-opened on 26th December 1963 as the Regal Theatre with the pantomime “Babes in the Wood”. Stage shows and films then continued until it was closed on 3rd July 1976 with a screening of the Swedish sex film “Anita” starring Christina Lindberg. In 1979 it was converted into small shops in the lower stalls. The circle area became a 200-seat Regal Cinema from 9th May 1983 when it re-opened with “Airplane 2”. Films ceased on 4th January 2001 with a screening of “Charlie’s Angels”. It was converted into a night club. In mid-2002 a serious fire later occurred and the building was demolished around 2006. The site is now a car park.

The first vacuum cleaner shown (circa 1901) likely was not privately owned but carted about by a sales service person who'd run the tube into the home and do the cleaning for the customer. The apparatus was too big to take into the house. The second one shown (circa 1906) showed a major technological advancement in reduced size so that it could be kept by a private homeowner, perhaps in a carriage house or a shed. Despite the large rooftop sign, the Yellowstone Hotel may no longer be such, although its upper floors surely seem in use and must be because the building's owner would not be able to financially maintain the building solely from the rent of the ground floor restaurant. If it were still active, Pocadello would be yet another distant U.S. city in which I could suppose myself spending several pleasant days.
