Hi Chris thanks for all your vids, been subscribed for a while. I'm real happy to see you begin a series of prepping and painting an entire house solo. You said here took you around 4hrs to prime. How many hours did caulking take you? And could you tell us how many hours or days work the entire project takes by yourself??? Much appreciated mate 👍

I’m prepping one side of my wood clapboard home. Plan to spot prime since much of the paint looks sound. But where I’ve scraped, the wood is very rough and splitting in spots. Would Peel Bond be good here to fill in small indentations, stabilize remaining paint chips and provide a smooth surface for the topcoat? I used PPG Seal Grip on the other side. Seems to have done a good job even if it seemed thin while applying. Thanks so much for your excellent videos.

I painted cars for years and when I finally went to paint my own house I found out that I would agonize over simple blemishes that I had to send out Phil prime and come back and when I paint interior walls in my house the same thing would happen it would literally take me 20 hours to paint. A room 12 x 20 because I would be constantly saying that you’re looking for blemishes love your videos

Chris, I am getting ready to paint a 1938 renovation project and have stripped/sanded down to bare wood. The original part of the house has cedar siding and the new addition is hardy board. I have scraped and feathered the soffit but there is still some cracking paint. What primer would you recommend for the different areas of the house? Should/can I peel bond the entire house to smooth out imperfections? Do I need to worry about the wood bleeding through the primer? I would prefer to stay away from oil based, is that possible?

I’m painting the redwood siding of my house. In some places there is damage due to ivy, and I had to sand down to the bare wood. In other places, sun and water damage caused blistering and, again, I’m down to bare wood which is heavily weathered. In both cases, I’m thinking of prepping the exposed wood with boiled linseed oil first. Does that make sense? How should I prime the treated wood?
@Idahopainter Жыл бұрын
Bad idea
@jag5316 Жыл бұрын
@@Idahopainter I’m trying it out on a test board. Zinsser said they have no data for this approach but suggested using a spray primer on the treated substrate and waiting a week for it to fully cure. If I cant scratch it off, then it might be okay.

We live next to a highway and there is a lot of oily black residue on the paint. Power washing, TSP, and house cleaner doesn’t do a very good job. Even scrubbing with simple green cant get it all. What do you suggest for prepping this type of scenario prior to painting?

Where do you purchase your Peel Bond. I noticed it's quite expensive on Amazon ($45 for just a QT) and can't be purchased at Home Depot or Lowe's. Subscribing to your channel was the best thing I've ever done in my efforts to learn how to paint my home correctly the first time.
@mascoffeegrande27633 жыл бұрын
Sherwin Williams used to carry it, now I think they have their own version that's very similar.
@johnhuggins50213 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I'll check with them tomorrow. Do you use their version now? If so, are you happy with their product including cost? What are your thoughts on using this product as a substitute: Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick Interior or Exterior Bonding Water-Based Primer (1-Gallon) that is sold by Lowe's? Or is this something totally different? Thank you again, for your thoughts?
@mascoffeegrande27633 жыл бұрын
@@johnhuggins5021 no I haven't tried out their version yet, I'm still able to get some at a local ace homeco store even cheeper than I used to get it at SW. Paying about $39/ gal retail. Just from looking at the specks a bit they seem like very similar products. If I were you and couldn't find a local source for the xim peel bond, I'd try out the other ones a bit and see how they work for ya.

I have a horror story about that peel bond, I hired a guy to paint these 20 foot beams on top of a giant pergola, I was on a deadline and way behind so I was off doing other things. I periodically checked up on him (the pergola was screened in on all sides including the top so I couldn't see up there) turns out that he didn't see any primer so he spent 12 hours priming it. he did come back the next day and make it right but still a whole day of work lost. I wanted to swan dive off the top of that pergola

Does the peel bond take the place of primer?
@skymedic484 жыл бұрын
Mmm, not really. If it's not tinted, it's clear. It basically adheres to peeled/scraped areas, it's a high build product. A little tricky to work with at the start, but it's a good product. It also helps old paint underneath with flexing and cracking.

Hi Chris, don’t you ever sand the whole house? I wonder if the Paint Will last properly if it doesent get a sanding, as a pro painter i always sand houses slightly. And as always GREAT video👌
@MrSpenhan4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the type of siding. This is that cardboard engineered cottage 5 and even lightly sanding could flatten out and fray the texture if not careful...especially on an area that has been hit with sprinklers...
@918scott4 жыл бұрын
Sanding that product would be a pandora box. Not only would it remove or reduce the imprinted grain on it, you would prob have to 2x prime it to get a good finish as you would now be painting on "recycled Amazon boxes".

@skymedic484 жыл бұрын
There are good paint and primers, and there are bad ones. Sherwin Williams super paint is an excellent product. Great durability, solid hide and coverage. Behr, is junk. I used to work at home depot, there is a 30 % markup on it. It sprays horrible, i had to thin it so much, it was like colored water. All paint manufacturers have paint/primer combo, they have their place for use. Hope this helps.
