DJI Mavic 3 - Waypoint Missions at Lucky Peak Reservoir - Firmware Update

We received a nice surprise with firmware v01.00.1000 for the the DJI Mavic 3. Video Waypoints are here! In this video I fly a preplanned waypoint mission an on the fly waypoint mission. It was a winter wonderland at Lucky Peak reservoir. The mountains and lake were covered in a blanket of snow. The Mavic 3 is a phenomenal product! Beautiful! It's nice to see that area in winter. I love how smooth it is. I fly plenty of Litchi missions with my Air 2S but have to edit out the wonky gimbal movements it can produce. It is nice to design missions on my computer and then preview/fly them in Google Earth before flying them at location. If DJI could get that mission planning on with the Google Earth feature, I'd have to upgrade.

The canyon looked awesome, and completely different when covered with snow. The perfect footage for the Holiday's. As far as your issues with the Global Speed settings, I adjusted my speed for each waypoint, so I didn't come up against this issue. I had my speed at around 15 mph for the waypoints, but when the drone went to waypoint 1 to start the mission, it traveled on its own at around 32 mph to get there. And pretty cool that you can set a zooming waypoint. Great flight, and I'm sure will we learn more about waypoints with each new mission that we fly. Thanks for sharing.

Many Thanks to you Marcus as you really support Drone Flying and testing. I think everyone must find your videos very helpful in deciding what is best for them after your reviews and honesty. I see many videos of people that do not like the Mavic 3 so I assume they never owned a Mavic 2 pro with Hasselblad as well. I still have mine since new and it is a lovely drone with the fly more kit. But the THREE is a trememdous improvement and since it takes only 1 Mavic 3 to own one the price is small. I think since I already had the rc controller I did not need the entire kit but to get it sent immediately I had to order it WITH the rc controller so I did. But I sold the extra new controller for $275 dollars so it reduced the price, tax etc. to much lower and I had it in 2 days, LOL. The controller sold the day I listed it. I really don not care about the price because I wanted one so it was just money to me and I do not care. I just bought the lovely Mono 3 Pro in July but I wanted something even better than my Mavic 2 Pro so love this baby very much. My Mavic Pro 2 is also a very powerful drone as well. But the new model is GREAT! It is one of those drones I will NEVER ever sell it. I just bought a spare battery as well. I have a uv filter coming Friday as well. Hello Marcus - great video and wonderful scenery. I'm green with envy! I noted you found an extra waypoint on your mission that you created at home the prior evening, waypoint #7 at about 3 minutes and fifty seconds or so into the video. You said you didn't create it for sure, deleted it, and moved on. I was struck by that as I had similar experiences, i.e. waypoints I didn't add appearing in my missions. I set about finding the culprit. Well, it was me. I created them, but unknowingly. DJY has placed the Waypoint Planning Menu is such a away that a tiny strip of touch sensitive map appears just below this menu and immediately adjacent to the slider control for adjusting waypoint properties. It's hard not to create a stray waypoint when you adjust properties and the waypoint appears under the menu where you can't see it. Depending on your zoom and where things are on your map, the added waypoint could be a long distance away and on the side of a mountain. I documented this in a KZbin video and submitted it to DJI. The fix is easy; just move the menu to the bottom so no map is exposed. I posted it on Mavic Pilots as well. Once you see how it happens, it's easy to avoid or fix, but for sure, watch out for the situation. I started using a stylus now for most everything in DJI Fly. Marcus, thanks for a very scenic and educational video. As soon as DJI starts selling the Classic by itself (now only available bundled with a controller), I plan to get one. I use Litchi and Maven, and functionally it looks like the M3 waypoints work similarly. I would love to see another one of your videos once you get the kinks out and can program and fly a cool automated mission. Keep up the great work!

I see but many of the new updates are not as simple to figure as you showed. It is kind of guess what to do in a few cases. I have the issues like you did as well and it is like a little pressure when you want to get something done while fying. I had a few experiences in the USAF flying as well and it is a bit uncomfortable when you MUST DO a thing now, LOL. A little direction sometimes would help but I had issues as well and if you wate time the battery is going lower, LOL. I would like to see an updated manual one day just for referrence as these drones do so many things now. That new Mavic is incredible no matter what. I am sure it will be a major seller for the great folks at DJI as there is a way for anyone to need just a few things of what it all does for sure. I love that Mini 3 Pro but I will be using that Mavic bird tomorrow for sure. It is awesome. Ray C.

Apply to All!!!! Sure, you had global speed set. But if you also had previously set speed for some or each of the waypoints, then you need to click 'Apply to All' in the Global Speed dialog so the you, well, so that you apply that global speed to ALL the waypoints.

I kike the way you learn from experience. I understand learning ON THE FLY, no pun intended, is difficult. Flying and learning is a testing experience and does not happen by chnce. At the time I was in Nam I never really knew what all the controls in my F4 Phantom did and if anyone ever asked me I would probably NOT flying into Cambodia which I actually learned decades later. LOL I still love the attemp and enjoyed the entire video anyway. Learning is a fun experience even though a bit challenging. The screen recording is done to the mobile device, or the DJI RC or the RC Pro, whatever you happen to be using.

Hya Marcus, kzbin.info/www/bejne/roKcopaGi9V2q8k&ab_channel=raycauchon I don't have any resevoirs on tap here but I managed to create a 10 point waypoint video that I saved, edited, and flew it and saw how smooth the Mavic 3 can fly a pattern programmed into it through that lovely controller. I was amazed that it launched as yours did, climbed flew to waypoint 1, started recording, and flew to the locations I planned to show. It is a wonderful addition and it ended with the drone returning automatically to the pad the way it took off from right on a pencil point as well. This drone is a wonderful addition. I used full aoto camera so I could concentrate on only working its waypoints. I will refine some video later but I could at least understand it like you did but there is a lot to it for sure so I kept it very simple and it still looked okay.

@@IdahoQuadcopter I think it is the best feature ever on a drone. You can fly your turn and save it. And you can repeat it at different times. especially for work photo video session, you are able to arrange some things that are not good at the beginning to fix it and repeat it.

Sure, I can go to the same spot and get in nearly the same. If I could import the csv file into DJI Fly that would be mega and mean I could exactly repeat those flights again. Thanks

Nice work. It would very helpful if DJI offered above ground altitude settings at waypoints like Litchi, a big deal in hilly terrain. The new option that keeps the mission going with the loss of signal is a huge benefit in high RF areas or areas with many obstacles.
