North/South beds are often good for them. When the bed gets into the slide the RV has to become longer & heavier (plus more expensive). JOSH! Question! I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos while my wife and I are shopping around for our first camper and you have educated me greatly!! I have more or less narrowed our search down to this camper or the 315RLS / 316RLS. I LOVE the weight and pin weight of this camper, as we are PROBABLY going to purchase a 3/4 ton diesel. My concern with this camper- over time, with it being a “half-ton”, what kind of flooring does this have? Is it some sort of compressed foam? Or plywood? In other words is the flooring going to last?
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
First, understand the phrase "Half-Ton" is something I truly dislike written across the nose of these. I do not feel most any of them are half-ton towable. This uses the same flooring as their travel trailers which they call "Hyperdeck" flooring. It is a laminated floor but it's also woodless with a composite top/bottom layering So the major question: _But will it last?_ To that all I can say is they've been using that "hyperdeck" flooring since about 2018 in multiple keystone brands (also including outback, bullet, and passport) since roughly 2018 or 2019 and I'm not aware of them having issues. That's not a VERY long time, but likely long enough to have heard something. ALSO please keep in mind my job doesn't always cross paths with aftermarket challenges regularly so I may simply not be aware of anything.
@calvinbatts44832 жыл бұрын
@@JoshtheRVNerd thank you very much for the reply. I agree with your statement in regard to “half-ton”- your standard 1500, f150, tundra (my current truck) just can’t cut it- safely anyway. MAYBE the new f150 with the eco boost, I have heard good things about it. But generally speaking, to tow a camper of this size SAFELY and COMFORTABLY- a minimum of a 3/4 truck I feel is the safest and best move. I read on a forum in researching these keystone Cougar “half ton” models have had flooring issues. They use the laminated flooring to save on weight, but I found a few posts complaining of soft spots in the flooring after only a few years. That’s obviously a huge concern for me. I like the 315RLS better anyway! But this model here seems like a great camper too so I just wanted your input.
@JoshtheRVNerd2 жыл бұрын
@@calvinbatts4483 the "half ton" series does use laminated flooring. I won't deny soft spots are impossible. I've not personally heard reports of it (which doesn't mean there aren't any of course). The "big cat" full cougar has a non-laminated floor though.

Josh, that thing is dead sexy gorgeous!!! There's only one reason why I would pass this one up; and it's definitely a deal breaker: it doesn't have a King Size Bed. At 6'6" I simply can't sleep on a Queen bed, unless I lay down on an angle... corner to corner; and my wife wouldn't be too keen on that idea. Aside from that, it's otherwise perfect. Keystone knocked that one out of the park. Even the kitchen, where you pointed out the position of the stove, microwave, counter and drawers. Leave it as is! I am wondering about the cabel operated slides; are they robust ? Do they hold up? How does the build quality compare to a Grand Design Refelection 150 series 5th wheel? Is Keystone Couger a well built option to tbe GD 150'S? Thanks!!!
@JoshtheRVNerd4 жыл бұрын
Cougar is the best selling RV in its class over history -- they're the 2nd best selling fifth wheel of all time (second only to their sister, Montana). Reflections were literally originally modeled after Cougar due to their success (as were many brands really). That doesn't mean one is just a photo copy of the other. They each bring some nice points to the table. In terms of construction, though, Keystone has some of the best engineering out there. If you google around you'll not find instances of Cougar rear walls falling off for instance. Keystone also fully glues their roof skins which not every brand does. Cougar's heating system is also arguably the most effective you can find out there including not just a flex-hose heat line run to the belly, but a full radiant barrier layering, heat lines run with the water lines to protect from freezing, 12v tank heaters, and direct forced air heating lines that exhaust directly onto each holding tank. Their hot climate camping features are also tested and proven Cougar RVs are also warranted for Full-Time RV'ing. If you look closely in this class, then you'll see where some brands may advertise tricky words like "Warranty for Seasonal Camping" which literally has no definition or coverage to a client EVERY company has strengths and weaknesses EVERY RV has benefits and drawbacks We would love the opportunity for a member of our team at 800-256-5196 to meet you & share some more reasons why we feel Cougars are a great value to a potential client & why we've chosen to feature them at our family owned facility!

Hey Josh, can you tell me is there a major difference between the 29RLS and the 30RLS half ton? These two models confuse me…lol Thanks
@JoshtheRVNerd3 жыл бұрын
I think you mean the 30RLS and the 290RLS. They are roughly the same layout. The 290 is a full cougar versus little kitty. It will have a little more headroom in some areas of the upper deck, but the real major difference between them is the stackable capable washer dryer prep in the big cat version
@dannys7213 жыл бұрын
@@JoshtheRVNerd thanks Josh, yes that’s what I meant. Do you have a review of the 290RLS? I think this maybe the one for me if I decide to go bigger with the truck. I’m looking at buying the truck this summer. My original plan was to buy a half ton with a heavy duty tow package. It seems that most people are recommending against using a half ton for the halfton 5ths. If I need to go 3/4 ton I may as well got to the more upscale 5th too. This 290 RLS seems to have everything I want. Camp side windows, large shower, fridge washroom access slides in. Will most 3/4 tons do well with the 290? If I do the halfton I think I’ll likely do the 22 mls travel trailer. Thanks so much for your help! Danny

COUGAR IS JUST SOO AWESOME!! The removable steps and all the air flowing windows all around, and the table set up (I do not enjoy air travel for the same reason; I have long legs too so, I totally understand you) are highly loved. Fireplace and theatre seats make me sing. (Yikes‼️) Am curious, I’m thinking the table doesn’t extend. Love though that it has 4 real chairs rather than the 2 folding chairs. I love the long coffee bar counter/cabinet. I like the larger drawers in the range cabinetry and really like that little window there too. I’d like the fridge to open into the kitchen space rather than into the living room space. - change request The pantry with the floor to ceiling shelf adjustment nobby-thingies, is THEE best idea since sliced bread. The asymmetrical island set up is an awesome feature. Make sure you get that neck looked at. LOL You’re such a rockstar in that shower. The shower seat and shelves are VERY MUCH appreciated!! Love everything about the bathroom - ceiling height, sun roof window, fan, porcelain foot flush toilet, large bathroom vanity counter with the left set faucets, mirror, cabinets and lighting all fantastic. What the 👹‼️. Queen bed 😤😭😭😭 You know me, it has to be a King (I know...it’s a Cougar ...they need to get on board like Eagle has) - change request. I’d want a second ac installed in the bedroom. In Command is the beast! 🤩 I really love this RV. ... Now, if I had a 3/4 ton pickup, I’d have to decide between this unit and the 29MBS (I like the hidden mid bunk room). Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t. All those windows on the camp side get 2👍🏻👍🏻 up‼️ You’re so awesome, Josh, you made me laugh a few times. My Dad passed away yesterday and I can’t be there for my family with COVID shutting down borders. So a laugh or two are much appreciated today, my friend. 🧖🏼♂️🦋

Hey Josh, love your videos. Informative and entertaining as well. My question is what half-ton pickup will pull this trailer? The one I've found that comes closest is the Ram 1500 hemi with towing package. 11,560# towing capacity and 1,850# payload. However, based on my arithmetic, that is right on the edge. Wondering why so many manufacturers call them half ton towable when there are only 1 or 2 trucks configured in a very specific way that come close to being adequate. Anyone else have an idea or suggestion?
@JoshtheRVNerd3 жыл бұрын
As you said it’s on the edge. Only a small select number of half tons have the payload to handle one of these A lot of people will say “bah - put airbags on that and you’re fine” I just.. I struggle with that idea

This is perfect!! I definitely prefer the asymmetrical kitchen with more counter space on one side... my only question is whether you can opt for the ‘rack and pinion’ slide instead of cable since it seems like there are some advantages to that system- or is the seating and dining slide too big?

I saw some nice features I liked. The length, the night stands, living room layout, decor etc. I really like the Cougars. But the fridge is definitely in the wrong spot for us. But speaking of the fridge, can you use the 12v compressor frige while boondocking? It seems like that version is still not as efficient off the grid as the propane. Or am I wrong about that?
@JoshtheRVNerd4 жыл бұрын
Anytime you're boondocking (regardless of fridge selection) you'll likely want some things like perhaps an extra battery, some level of solar, and/or a generator of some size Those fridges only draw 3-4 amps, so even a simple 100w portable panel can keep that fridge running for extended periods on a single battery As a result depending on the equipment you prefer it can be very easy to maintain full function of the RV when off-grid

My kneejerk reaction is to say I'd much prefer symmetric counters on either side of the stove. That said, calling out the impact on storage entry size (as opposed to actual volume) is useful. Plus, I think having a massive island right behind mitigates the lack of counter space. Too bad about the lack of undersink RV Nerd storage. That might be dealbreaker. Someday, when there's plenty of inventory and plenty of time (never?), it might be nice to see some comparison of the "lite" brands, like Cougar HT, Eagle HT, and Rockwood -- and as more of a tangent, from videos alone, I have great difficulty discerning the differences between Rockwood UL's and Rockwood Signatures, other than that the latter seem to value travel accessibility at right around 0.
@JoshtheRVNerd4 жыл бұрын
I have a growing list of comparisons here kzbin.info/www/bejne/moqZgICLe9B9rNE but we've been completely exhausted on Rockwood RVs and I haven't been able to get anything recorded for Rockwood (Yet!) But I do have a handy Cougar vs. Eagle travel trailer video that'll translate nicely into their smaller FW segments. The weather has finally turned cold enough here where we've closed our slides for the season. Once the weather warms back up I'll try to get back to this playlist Hopefully by then we'll have been able to get some more in stock I also want to make some "Full Class" comparisons across multiple brands at once.

In the kitchen I like the set up the way it is. Could use shelf’s in the upper cabinets. Just one small question could your team somehow put a flush mount 12 volt ceiling fan in between the kitchen and the living room? To help push air around. Outher wise this has everything that I like. Could I get a rough estimate on price. For this camper with 2 a/c, solar, and charger, 2 batteries. Loaded with everything. If you don’t want to post it on here I could send you my email. @@JoshtheRVNerd My hubby and I have been looking specifically at much older models of fifth wheels because the bedroom floor plans in these newer models are imho terrible. The hanging closet space is smaller and all the mirrors in the world doesn’t make it bigger just makes it feel cluttered. Drawer space is actually less, just because there are bigger drawers there are less of them so not really a plus. As full timers we are also beginning to look at toy haulers to strip out the beds and sofas that they come with and make an actual master bedroom out of it and turn the existing master bedroom into an office. One more thing is textured shower walls of any kind is a no go. Way to difficult to keep clean and free of hard water deposits from using several different water sources when traveling. Sorry about the rant. Didn’t mean to lol. But sometimes I don’t think they really think things through when planning these new models and floor plans. Oh and the side tables in the bedroom should have drawers not an open hole. Not much use really.
