This was my first meter, given to me by my father, simple but always reliable !!! I still love this meter and it has a sentimental value to me

started out with these (the orig) but alot of companies/jobs have banned solenoid testors as a primary tool. its worked for me till retirement, although I used mostly the Knopp tester

You lost me there for a minute, I had to google KNOPP TESTER I didn’t know what it was. It’s a solenoid tester, wow thanks for sharing that 👍🏽

For the equipment techs - those are “the must”! Unless you like to chase your own tail for hours.

I can't remember if I said it on this video or another video I did of this voltage tester. Even though it's older technology they are still relevant to this day , and still have it's in the electrical field.

2008?? The Vol Con series goes back to the 70s. The defining feature of this unit is its ability to measure continuity instead of just voltage hence the "Con" in its name. These units have adquired a bad rap but most of this heat comes from Fluke marketing. In the late 90s the safety CAT ratings for intruments arrived and it was used deftly by Fluke to knock out all the imported instruments sold at the time by established domestic brands and not so domestic brands. This effort paid off as Fluke had little retooling and redesign to do to comply with the new CAT ratings. With unsurpassed availability of compliant products Fluke quickly increased their market penetration. Other well known companies also took advantage this opportunity. FFWD to early 2000s now Fluke takes aim at the last pocket of resistance, the tester-indicator market segment and its Champions Amprobe, Wiggy, VolCon... Fluke bought Amprobe and Wiggy- SquareD would be irrelevant if the VolCon could be shaken hard enough, and it was. A lot of apples fell to the ground. One of the arguments was safety. Look at your VolCon it has Three (3) independent means to validate voltage : 1) Solenoid indicator bar with vibration 2) Neon bulb detector 3) LED detector How many DMMs have this level of redundacy built in? None, thats why a volage proving unit is required to validate DMMs. Yes these testers do have limitations and so do DMMs and they are different animals. IMHO solenoid tester type instruments are not as dangerous as portrayed and have around for 100 years.

I knew that the test have a continuity feature and that’s what the Con stood for in Vol- Con. But I didn’t know about the marketing strategy by FLUKE toward the competitors. Marketing brilliance , thanks for sharing that history lesson.👍🏽
