I've started to gather as much informations as possible but also add some of my personal experiences, at least when it comes to my 2023 Transalp XL750. Some informations differ depending on the source (for ex. the year when the first Transalp XL600V was released: some say 1986 some 1987). Please feel free to complete or correct my data from the video in the comment section, it would be great to have all the correct Transalp's evolution. Any comment wil be more than appreciated. 🔔 TIMELINE 0:00 intro 0:32 FIRST GENERATION TRANSALP XL600V 05:14 HONDA XL400V 06:48 SECOND GENERATION TRANSALP XL650V 08:00 TRANSALP BUILD IN THE ATESSA HONDA FACTORY ITALY 18:02 THIRD GENERATION TRANSALP 700V 25:58 TRANSALP XL750 29:18 outro

I live in the United States and bought a 1989 tricolored Transalp that had sat on the dealer's floor floor for two years in 1991. It has about 24,000 miles on it and runs great. Lots of memories with that bike. Added the 2024 Transalp to the stable and am working to add protective gear to it (most items are back ordered - due to demand I guess). Recently gave the 1989 Transalp to my son to continue the journey. Thanks for history!

Excellent review of the Honda Transalp, thank you. I have a 2023 XL750 and a 2001 XL650V made in Italy. The build quality of the 650 is very good, including the plastic panels, and still looks great after 23 years of riding. Both are a joy to ride on our often rough roads here in New Zealand. Although improved in almost every way and much faster than the 650, I am not totally in love with modern electronics. The older model offers simplicity and a real connection to the road surface with great feedback. Keeping both forever!

Great comment, it's so nice that previous models are still running. In this consumerist society it's a refreshing thing to hear. Greetings and all the best 👍

Thanks for the great story of Transalp. I owned 1987 Transalp 600V for 37 years. And today I changed it to the new XL750 Transalp.

Hello thanks for the comment. Enjoy your new bike! Why haven't you kept both?
@toshinaka130910 ай бұрын
Yeah, I wanted to keep both because the 1987 Transalp is good condition. But there is not enough space for the two bikes. I wish the old Transalp will cross the pacific ocean and find a new owner in North America or East Europe.@@IdealBike

Thank You for this historic journey of this legend! Am the proud owner of the XL650V/2005 in Orange Metallic with over 100000km on the clock. Been in My ownership for 12 good years. I mostly drive in arctic climate of Scandinava…Have upgraded it slowly over the years. The biggest upgrade is the Hyperpro progressive suspension front & rear that transformed the bike. Yes the plastics are sadly quite brittle & cracks easily…So crashbars is a must since the panels are gettin harder to find. Easy to work on, provide honest, reasonable & reliable transportation in comfort. Great bike & will never sell it. The Power Of Dreams ❤

You find tanks for the 700?
@coastrider88817 ай бұрын
@@Subaruktm Hi, what do you mean by tanks? Fuel tanks?
@Subaruktm6 ай бұрын
@@coastrider8881 fuel tanks for the side. A brand still makes carbon ones for the xtz 750
@coastrider88816 ай бұрын
@@Subaruktm I don't think there's any side tanks for the 700. Boano used to make for the 650, but not sure if they are still available. I've never felt the need for it. In my last travel I had long stretches without fuel available over the range of the 700, so I just strapped a cheap 5 liters fuel container to the back. Most of the time the range is plenty enough, and even more on the 650.

The 650 is an awesome bike however the front plastics are cheap and clunky.. The best modification I've ever made was replacing the front plastics for a Boano fairing which had made it perfect 👍

I gotta say, the XL600V Transalp looks alot better than the 650. The front on the 650 looks... feminine, I'd say. It doesn't look rugged and hardy, like the 1st gen.
@pedroclaro782211 күн бұрын
Yeah first one wins in looks and price. 650 and 700 win for 2up riding. The 750 is just gorgeous but so expensive that id rather buy a very used old Africa twin. Better than the 650 there’s the deauville with the same engine, just much better for touring, luggage included btw

I had the 650 2001 model and i curently have the 700 2009 model with abs. They are totaly different. The only common thing is that they both are easy to drive. The 700 has more power, more agility, better brakes, better headlight, feels lighter, it's a bit better on milage, but is also has worse engine vibrations, is gets way hotter in the engine and exhaust area, it has a terrible rear shock, and worse build quality. It also has problems with the key immobilizer system and tube type wheels(that goes for the 650 as well) and needs very frequent spark plug changes otherwise it doesn't run smooth especially at winter. Am i happy with it? Yes, the only thing i would like is another rear shock, tubless wheels and a bit better milage. That would be a perfect mid size on off bike.

The front mask of the Transalp 750 is so dull and boring. Looks more like a CBX 500 with a replaced engine swap. Even the new Honda NX 500 has a more original front mask. The rest of the Transalp is really good looking but the front is just boring. As if the designer in front of the drawboard had no ideas to make the new transalp stand out from the competition and other honda models. Next to it no cruise control, no user friendly swapping of the airfilter and low hanging exhaust pipe. The engine sounds good on paper, but they should changed the engine mapping different from the new hornet. Should have changed in order to reach max. torque on lower RPM range (6250 or 6000 instead leaving it like the hornet over 7000 RPM).

No word about the racing dna inherited from NXR750, 4 times Dakar winner, interrupting the series of BMW wins, with the V-twin designed especially for race, that had given all the trend of the following Japanese bikes, especially Honda's Africa Twin and Transalp? Even GPT4+ doesn't rise to expectations.

Hopefully, with much more research, there will be another video to cover racing heritage also, thanks for sharing 🙏
