Moms had a 99 Expedition with the 5.4 2v for 23 years and just got to say I get saying that about the 3 valve but leave the 2v out of it she's got nothing to do with this. Only problem it has is the spark plug issue but that's not even that bad only happened once to us and it has 250,000 on her
@alexcurtis8132Ай бұрын
Yep, 99 must have been a good year😂 my 5.4 99 Expedition was bulletproof...the trans was pretty worn out, but it never broke down on me and had around 210k on it when i sold it lol

People fail to realize there is 2v, 3v and 4v versions of the 5.4. The 3v is the worst one of all. The other 2 versions aren’t as bad.

I have an '04 durango with the non-mds "pre-eagle" 5.7l v8, and shes running strong at just over 200k miles. She was ran hard by the previous owner (and ofcouse some by me, its a fun engine for sure :)), little bit of oil burning and some noticeable startup ticking from the exhaust manifold bolts, but shes a trooper as long as you keep oil on the dipstick and always keep up on the maintenance 100%.

You've mixed the three valve issues with the 2v Triton. The 2 valve is damn near bullet proof with the exception of the spark plugs blowing out, which stemmed from under torquing of the spark plugs due to two few threads in the head, which is a 10 minute permanent fix. The 3v was the absolute crapper. There's endless examples of the 2v first gen Triton lasting well beyond 250k. Evidence enough can be found on marketplace. As a 22 year tech I thoroughly recommend a first gen Triton

The 6.0 is like playing Russian roulette, some were made better than others. Mine hasnt been treated the best (its a retired farm truck) but it still runs great on 200k miles. But my neigbor had one and it blew up...

Glad to see the Dodge 4.7 here. I owned a Ram 1500 with one. It was the engine that was so good, until it wasn’t. Decent fuel economy and punched way above its weight in power delivery. But blown head gaskets, & the infamous clogged heater core that required cutting your dash to pieces to replace proved it was poorly designed.

The exhaust manifold on the Ram really isn’t a huge bill to be honest and they aren’t the only ones with this issue. (Do your oil changes regularly and the cam/lifter issue isn’t super common. Most 6.0L Fords have been fixed properly by now and are actually great engines if the repairs have been done with upgraded parts.

Triton 2v. The spark plugs launching into the atmosphere is a problem I've seen on forums. My family and have owned several of these engines and never had that issue. Never had the sludge issue. Most common I've experienced was the upper intake manifold crossover leak. My brother still owns a 97 5.4 with well over 350k. These engines are solid and last a long time. Their downside is they lack power compared to competitors of that era.

No way they are. Chevy has had a lot of flops with their smaller car motors but their truck v8s are some of the best ever made. The Duramax has had its rises and falls but even then you can get more than 40k out of a brand new one before you have issues. Ford has more truck motor flops than Chevy. I’m not a Chevy fan boy but those are just the facts.

Stay away from anything with Turbos, except Porsche, who mount them away from the engine. Reasons OEM manufacturers mount them next to the engine. Most don't know Turbos get to 1,875 ° Fahrenheit or 1,020 ° Celcius. Often like the Ecoboost anything, or the EcoTech. Which I call EcoTragic. They are mounted with Heat Shields 🛡 between the engine (Often Aluminum Engine Block) which get warped. On Ecoboost Mustang the Cylinder 3 gets a code of Low Compression.. I went to V8 Mustang again. Will never get anything Turbo if it not a Porsche. It has to be a Naturally Aspirated or Supercharged. 🧖♂️👍🏎🏁🚩🌲⛰️🏞🧗 V8's Forever Ever

Here’s a truck no one seems to ever remember, the Jeep Comanche with the 2.5L AMC I4. I owned one for a few years until my family outgrew it and I upgraded to a Caravan. Great little truck on paper. Good gas mileage for a low tech 4 banger. Could take a beating and keep on going as long as it never got wet. The engine electronics were prone to failure if they came into contact with any more moisture than fog. It literally left me stuck in a car wash.
