Thank you SO MUCH for this video. It helps me with so many of my questions. I’m a stills photographer trying to learn video for a photo safari. You don’t get to do this every day, so I want to be in t he ball park to begin with. Again thank you.

@andersaastrup10 ай бұрын

I wish theres more videos on these topics for people that simply cant go buy a camera thats 3 grand.

It's not really the camera that does it, when making smooth and steady footage. Of course some inbuilt stabilization helps a tiny bit, but it comes down to the techniques really :)

So you shoot 100/120 fps in standard playback, so in camera its not slowed down. You do the slow motion in post when you want to do speed ramps?
@andersaastrup9 ай бұрын
Yeah exactly. I find that most convenient 😊

I don´t agree with two points. 1) In body stabilization should be avoided when shooting on a tripod. I can result in weird glitches. 2) Don´t shoot everything in slow motion, except you have a lot of storage. Slow motion should be used where it really is showing the viewer something special, that would otherwise not be possible. Otherwise it loses its WOW-effect and becomes cheesy. Also one does tend to rely on slow motion to much. Otherwise, nice video.

Thank you for your feedback and opinion - i would like to challenge you though ;) 1) When you shoot on a tripod on for example 1200mm, no matter what you do when you move the camera, you'll have small jitters - In body stabilization, will help with those and I don't really get weird glitches on my fx3 to be honest. So I would still always recommend this - if your camera is good at it. 2) Slow motion does of course need way more storage. I have a server with 80TB, so for me it's not a problem, but something to keep in mind. I was shooting an osprey sitting on a branch for an hour yesterday, not doing much - and of course slow motion here is obviously not needed - but suddenly it took flight to hunt, and there's no time to switch to 100fps - so im glad I kept it in slow motion, to be able to slow that down. Slowmotion also helps to see those small details, like the eyes blinking and stuff like that - and you don't have to slow things down, but it's nice to have the option to do so - still loks great when played at 25fps speed. If you find it hard in general to keep your camera steady, slow motion will help slow the movements down (though it can look cheesy sometimes as you mention - but it's still a way to help you keep steady and that is what this video is about ;)) Once again - thank you for watching! :)

when you use in body stablization. it zooms in. so does it mean its still 4k? i tried using this then added more stabiliztion in post and looked like the video lost detail.
@andersaastrup4 ай бұрын
Some cameras crop in as you mention and some don’t, but they still shoot in 4k 👌😊

Do you experience lag in your external monitor, and if so, is it too much for wildlife/action videography since you are often dealing with fast-moving objects?
@andersaastrup3 ай бұрын
I haven’t experienced any kind of lag even when shooting 4k 100fps ☺️
