Brewster speed kit goes back a little before 1960. Works great to 6 or 7,000 feet can't string up more than 4 lines. Run circles around a conventional string up but just for shallow wells.

This is a replica of the Skytop speed kit which has been around since the late 60's, which were alledgedly "outlawed" by insurance companies because they were too "dangerous", I wish i could get my hands on this setup, there is no faster way to trip tubing in a well than this!

@@LuisSanchez-qe1oz I concur. When I started in the late 1980s they had just got rid of them because of accidents with them. There is nothing wrong with getting a 30 second rest in-between stands when you are running or pulling 150 to 200 stands.

On the side by side video on rig is "tied back" the other is "tied ahead" or "double fast". The rig on double fast is the "ideco speed system" and like it's name double fast... both ends of the drill line are attached to the drum so it wraps twice as fast/falls twice as fast... in no world could anyone even the best ever out pace a rig that tied back (has one line run into the drum) vs someone running double fast (2 lines in the drum) don't ask me how it works it just does ive been working on rigs for almost 15 years and I have yet to figure out how double fast works, it just does. A good crew can run 110 stands an hour on a conventional rig, I've seen it done a lot.

@cyc25ruffneck Жыл бұрын
Its obviously a faster system but I saw a lot of tricks being used to make it look like the speed difference was bigger than it actually is. The rig on the left was halfway out of the hole, the conventional version looked like they were one or two rows off bottom. More pipe in the hole means your pulling slower! The one on the left appeared to be running double fast line, the other one was not. And when it showed them tripping conventionally, they were going WAY slower than any workover rig I've worked on! Put some of the rig runners I've worked for on that rig, and I bet you the speed difference would be alot closer!!

Speed kits are an addition to a rig..... but...... 1. There can be some insurance issue depending on the underwriting of the insurance company. 2. It doesn't help if you are picking up singles or laying singles down......same speed as conventional rig.

Work string weight (N-80) and lift is less than 120K then safe and faster to run on 4 lines. We also used 2 men on the floor. Second work back-ups and stabbed the stands. He also was used for laying down singles and doping couplings while RIH. Turned down collars completely negated any speed kit action.

Same idea as a rod transfer
@stressbelden58698 жыл бұрын
A speed kit is the same operation as when a workover rig pulls sucker rods. Think about it..... When the derrickman is in the rod basket he has his foot operated air cylinder. He latches on......the block is sent immediately back down to the floor. When going back into the hole.....same operation, just reversed. And when the derrickman is on the tubing board. Well.....to the point. Basically, what I just stated in the above paragraph. A speed kit really is nothing new......no "new" technology.
@sts4288 жыл бұрын
Yup, you're right! and definitely not new technology. This system was sold by IDECO in the 70s but it didn't last because people thought it was more dangerous... and service companies get payed by the hour. This speed kit is an old refurbished one.
