The same thing happened to me, I spent 11k on bulbs. I had 2 skins A and skin S, which is the one I wanted, and the little girl skin came in the last essence... it was 141 essences.

Is there a particular reason for doing single pulls and 10 pulls instead of just doing 10 over and over? I've seen a few people doing a similar method so I was curious if it helped with getting good pulls

I don't think it helps. It's just so you don't waste any more echoes turning to inspiration when you pull the thing you want. Or you can keep pulling 10 each if you got unlimited echoes/money to spend. Some people may open one at a time just for content to make the video a bit longer.
