This is an old comment but I wanted to say that survivors in idv always seem to be on a sliding scale of morality, ranging from ones that are totally unforgivable and irredeemable, like the Thief, to ones that have some level of ambiguity and debatable-ness, like the Entomologist and Gardener, to ones like our dear Toy Merchant and also the Postman, who are good people that got a really fucked up lot in life and are here because they have no other choice or feel like they have no other choice. I totally agree with you though, Annie deserves so much better. She’s going in the small selection of ‘shouldn’t have to be here’ with Postman, Mind’s Eye, and Forward.

Guys I know Annie arrived A while ago, I know that unfortunately she died because of AEFLOP (Aesop, I only said that because I hate this character) but I think her Death was Half FORCED because she pays attention to it here: Annie has a backpack where she keeps things to make her toys that would probably have something for her to use to defend herself, She has a small bag where she keeps needles to sew plush and she has a spinning top with an IRON tip all these positive points could have made her survive now as she died with all this in hands I don't know anymore, I love Annie very much and I really don't think she deserved to die

im kinda late but i saw theories based on her deductions saying that her family was wealthy and her mother was a muse for her dad because her father is a painter and thought she was perfect. But when the mother passed away, the father tried painting Annie but ended up saying messed up stuff to her and maybe locked her in her room because she'll never be as beautiful or perfect as her mother (thats why in the video it says shes an inferior imitation of her mom) so while she was in her room, she created a glider to escape and started her own toy shop using some of the money she inherited from her mother (because again they were wealthy) and because she found comfort and solace in toys

So, the way I’m getting this is that: Anne had always loved how toys can make children smile and dreams of being toy maker and merchant, just like her late mother whose toys are one of Anne’s favorites. However no matter how long and hard she tried, Anne could never be as good as her mother, in her abusive father’s opinion that is. One day, said father had arranged a wedding between Anne and a suitor that seemed perfect, but soon poor Anne learned that nothing is as it seems and not all toys are for innocent children. Her heart was broken, her innocence was stolen and her “perfect” husband ran off to find a newer toy to play with. She was nothing more than a toy for greedy and lustful men. But that all changed the day a letter arrived to her promising the following: “My poor little doll, I understand how sad and pitiful your life is right now. That’s why I’m offering you a way to fly away from all your pain. Come to my manor and partake in a little game. Should you be successful, I’ll grant you your greatest wish.”
