I think I'm in the minority of people who went through one of these surgeries and thankfully don't regret it (and I hope I never do). It was "just" a mastectomy and I'm really happy with the result, but at the same time, yes, I'm fed up with the woke nonsense and this dangerous ideology, and I don't know whether or not I'd have felt the need to this in the first place had the ideology not been so prevalent and commonplace. It's got to stop. People aren't always going to be as lucky as I have been to have not felt damaged by it. I just see it as part of my existence and part of my journey through life, and I wouldn't be the same person without that experience so I'm thankful for it.

I have to disagree. As a trans person, my issue with people who detransition and with people who have stories like these is that they come onto platforms to speak publicly about their experiences and make it seem as if that is the truth and reality for all trans people. That is certainly not the case. These people are not “victims” of being transgender. They are victims of being abused. They are victims of misinformation. They are victims of doctors who follow malpractice. They are victims of manipulation. And sometimes they are really a victim of their own poor choice to not properly research but instead rush into transitioning without proper knowledge and resources after realizing that maybe they weren’t actually trans but rather just queer, curious, or simply doing it because someone else told them they were trans rather than using their brain to make a sound decision for themselves. They then take their individual bad experiences and poor choice of decisions and paint that as the truth for the entirety of the trans community. Then people like you hear their stories and run with it, causing this cycle in which the the entire trans community is terribly villainized and given a bad rep. And though I feel bad for some of these individuals and would never wish their experiences on anyone, I also have to firm in the truth that a majority of trans people actually do have great and positive experiences in their transition. For this one story of genital mutilation there are hundreds more success stories with good results, well informed trans patients, and good doctors behind them. A majority of us were not manipulated, forced, rushed, or brainwashed into our transition. A majority of us actually do take the time to research and obtain information and look into doctors with good practice and hold deep discussions and ask questions and go to years of therapy before deciding to transition. A majority of us do not stupidly let someone else decide whether or not we are trans. And despite the outcome of one person’s negative experience and despite what the CIS gender hetero population who have never walked a day in our shoes and experience will tell you, a majority of us are not confused and we are quite certain about who we are as trans individuals, even from very early on in life. Science and studies are now recognizing that gay and trans people are not “mentally ill” or “choosing” to be this way and that there is strong evidence that suggests that it is indeed genetic and inherently neurological. In my own case, I have known literally from infancy. I took my time to build a healthy support system and execptional medical professionals around me before I did anything. I wasn’t abused or manipulated or letting anyone rush me into anything. I have had my surgeries, all of which were great and successful. I’m now 27 and my life is better than ever! As someone who is an active member in support group for trans women in my community, I have met thousands of trans women and they will tell you the same. I am a brutally honest and blunt individual and I am quick to shut down anything I feel is unhealthy, toxic, and harmful. And if I felt transitioning was this harmful and toxic experience, I wouldn’t at all be an advocate for ACTUAL trans women who aren’t victims of someone else’s poor choice of actions. So no, we are not silencing these people. We are silencing the false narrative that these peoples stories are our stories.

I feel the same. How could anyone not feel compassion for him and how could anyone attack him out of insane ideology? You can see his nervousness and reticence but his bravery shines through. This should not have happened to him and our medical establishment should never have allowed it. This alludes to a question I (and others) have had regarding all of this: why, if a biological male is experiencing "gender dysphoria" do the doctors not investigate the lad's natural hormone levels (testosterone et al.) and figure out if there's a deficit? Phalloplasty is used for some men who have been injured in war, or a car crash for example. Not using flesh from a woman’s forearm to sew onto her crotch. Back then no surgery was undertaken on any person under 18 years of age, and you would be referred to a psychiatrist. The treatment and management plan would be, you would be expected to live as a male or female, wear clothing that would identify you as such. You had to agree to follow protocols the psychiatrist stipulated. Keep appointments and engage with referrals to the departments psychologist and any nurses involved with your care. If a person was diagnosed with other mental disorders /illness this would effect how to help and offer medical, and ultimately surgical interventions. I never met anyone who regretted asking for help. I do remember nursing and caring for patients who were naturally very distressed when complications arose and the surgery was not successful. People used to move to London and get referred to a London hospital because they knew they would get help and be treated by empathetic professionals. I also met people who had personality disorders and threatened various degrees of self-harm because they felt the treatment wasn't moving quickly enough and believed that this approach would get them what they ultimately wanted. Very occasionally there were threats to members of the team and this behaviour resulted in immediate discharge from the clinic. That was then. Now maybe we should consider the motivations of professionals working in this specialty. We only have to reflect what happened at the Tavistock Clinic. I believe this young person would not have had gender reassignment with their presenting psychiatric diagnosis 40 years ago. Now it feels like the safeguards are highly questionable. Listening to this is making me feel very angry TBH.

Transman here. Love the courage this dude has, this is the reality of transitioning, we need more people sharing these types of stories. Detransitioners are forever going to be the strongest in my world. These surgeries,medication, and everything that goes with it, is for life not just a phase. I have also watched interviews with Chloe Cole, who is now a Major Anti-Transitionist in the US. She also had mental problems, not gender dysmorphia as they claimed she had, but she was convinced to go ahead with surgery. Fortunately, she only had a mastectomy, then realised her mistake, but she says she will never have the pleasure of breastfeeding nor does she know if she will ever be able to fall pregnant because of all the hormones. Very sadly she interviewed another woman who was told to have everything removed at once, then realised she had made a huge mistake & now her life is ruined. This is one of the most disturbing and upsetting things ive watched. I really feel sick that the very thing that may lead some to go through with these surgeries, i.e an attraction to same sex, or feelings that make you feel a man or women whichever you are not can lead to ending up without that initial sexual stimulation and lifetime regret. I doubt any teenager has never thought of such things and especially when hormones run wild. Today with all the identities we are told to accept even if you think its crazy can lead to life changing catastrophes. I have a gay housemate and some of what you said does apply to him. He is also ocd and goes through wild sex and drug sprees constantly and out of all my friends I’ve helped through their problems with, he is the hardest to get through to. One part is that i feel like by stating my position and my concerns i may somehow be insensitive or out depth when talking about gay stuff with him. Another issue is that a lot of this behaviour is normal in the circles he is in and i always felt like he convinces himself it’s normal because so many gay guys live like that and it’s part of being gay. Feel like i never knew the reality of the struggles a gay person might have until i lived with him and it’s nothing like what the media portrays. The happy fun side all his mates see is nothing like what i see go on his head when i chat with him at home. It’s like a person constantly unsure of himself and always trying project himself in certain’ way without just being himself or enforcing his own values. It’s to the point where sometimes its hard to tell if he even knows what values and morals he has and if he is alway mirroring someone else or another gay guy he likes. Sorry if i typed anything insensitive, it’s hard to articulate or describe his brain from what i gather from my pov but i feel like i got to a point where idk how to help him with his problems. I just want to tell him to run away from the community and go solo and take care of himself for a bit but he is so reliant on other people for emotional support that he gets stuck in the pity stage and then reverts back to every bad habit he was doing before.

Now, coming back to @beer1403. What is sex? Is it chromosomes? Is it sex organs? Is it testosterone/oestrogen levels? Is it phenotypes such as beards, hair length, breasts, body frame, hip proportions, brain structure? It is all of those things, because we cannot scientifically lock 'sex' into one category. So the concept of 'sex' is not as clear and reducible as you would like to think it is for the sake of your ideology. So what happens when someone presents with one of the above features in a way that contradicts their other features? What objective, unequivocal feature do you rely upon to define that persons' sex? Do you defer to a hierarchy of features? In this case, you might say chromosomes have the final say over anything else. But that stops working when you have cases of people presenting with chromosomes that are non-binary. What if their chromosomes are female but their other features are predominantly male?
