ID Guy, I'm terribly sorry to hear of your loss, just know you and yours are in my prayers. Chin up, eyes forward, press on, smile as you go.

Thank you Wes. It's been a mad twist to close off the year but it's taught me infinitely more. Dad knew he was sick for a long time (never told us as a family) but made a lot of preparations before going. The best man you'd ever hope to meet. Really can't thank you enough for this message Wes 🥃

James and I are so sorry for your loss. 💕 there never is the right thing anyone can say or do. Grief is just a journey that kinda never ends! Gosh, that sounds bleak. Well, it kinda evolves. We haven’t been the same since James’ dad passed. The world just never is the same again. But you learn a new normal! 💕 we are sending you all of our love and grieving alongside you. As for the watches, top tier state of the collection! I think the ID Collection needs a pretentious dress watch! 😜✨

My mantra for the new year, “learn to appreciate less.” Prior to seeing this video I made the decision to finally get a Tudor destro that I fell in love with when it first came out. In the interim, I purchased other watches that intrigued me but never filled that void. You hit it right on the head with, “don’t buy something supplementary instead of getting the one you truly feel a connection with.” To answer your question in the end, this video made every bit of sense. Thank you.

As someone who also lost their father unexpectedly in 2022 I can sympathize. Recently while going through his things I came across an old Elgin mechanical watch. Happy New Year, I look forward to more of your videos, they are always top tier. Cheers!

It's odd, right? Perspectives shift so fast... My dad knew he wasn't well (but never told us as a family - in hindsight it was the best thing) and the last 4 months has included moving houses, finances, the works BUT it's one of those life lessons that we all experience I guess (sadly there's no way to teach people until it happens) I hope you have an excellent and fresh start to your 2023 Jason and thank you for sharing the story of his Elgin! Cherish it! 🥃
@jasont4783 Жыл бұрын
The Elgin is a 1950's self winding shockmaster. Probably 34mm so it will wear small for me but as it should for a 1950s era watch. I see myself heading down a rabbit hole on this one, without a doubt a cherished piece.
@Superdada Жыл бұрын
@@jasont4783 I inherited an old Elgin pocket watch that was word by my great-grandfather, passed down to his son, then his son and now me. It's got our initials "JJJ" carved in it. It doesn't work. So I'm in the same boat of trying to learn how to restore. Good luck with your project!

Sorry for your loss and it’s refreshing to hear your growth as a result, opposed to all the negatives that may have been associated. I personally have had one watch for the last 2 years (Explorer 124270) and have no intention of anything else anytime soon. The north of my son helped me gain perspective and I wanted to have 1 watch that spoke to me and what he’d always associate me with when it hopefully gets handed down to him.

So sorry for your loss. It sure puts things into perspective. I'm a material person, I hope in the good sense of the term. I purchase vintage objects that tell a story and are time capsules of an era when life seemed easier and creativity was encouraged. These watches, cars, bikes, and more mundane objects had very creative designs and were made to last a lifetime. They bring me happiness, and although I'm only their temporary caretaker, I get huge satisfaction in looking after them and doing my best to keep them going a little longer. Thank you for the video and best wishes for 2023.

@ID-Guy So sorry to hear about your father’s passing. My condolences thoughts and prayers. As a father of a son. All a father wants is for his son to become the best man he can be. Not to worry, but to continue and build your life. Your fathers life is complete in you. He raised a boy that became a man. That man is you, and the world is a better place because of who you became. Take comfort knowing he will continue to live within you. His loved ones will see a reflection of your father when they see you. One day in the far distant future, you will see him once again. Sending hugs and strength from Chicago. Thank you for your videos and insight on our hobby. You hit it right on the nail with this video. It’s all about the watches you wear not the quantity you keep in a box. Collection themes vary from large to small, price, brands, rarity, or the quantity of watches. Only a TRUE purist enthusiast wears his watch(es).

Dear ID Guy, so sorry for your loss. The passing of a father is such a difficult moment in life, especially when its abrupt. Sincere condolences. After 25 years of interest in watches, I think the ideal is a one watch collection Jack Nicklaus style. That one watch that has been everywhere with you and has been charged with so many memories and moments it becomes an extension of you. I’m not there at all with 5 watches in the collection but definitely agree with the less is more concept and the idea of saving up and really waiting for an exceptional watch… I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you for your thoughtful videos and incredible content.
