The next time you replace a track do the opposite of what you did here. When you take it off, pop it off the idler first. When you put the track on, put it on the sprocket first. Especially if you don't have another machine to just muscle it on, it's always easier to keep the sprocket engaged and pry it over the idler.

I've found it's the opposite. Go figure. I have a tough time getting it on the idler after it's on the driver. Idk. Each machine is a little different for sure. 👍 Appreciate your comment. Next time I change a track, I'll try it driver first again. Mabey I missed something

So you prefer JD on the skid steer? What about JD mini excavator? Hard decision on what brand to buy. I seem to be leaning on the JD 50 or 60 series.

I got a trick for you to get those back on. Measure the distance between point on your drive gears, should be about 1.5 to 2 inches or so. Go buy some short heavy wall pipe just under that diameter, long enough so you can cut 4-5 pieces the width of your tracks out of it. When you get the track to the point you were with the pry bar trying to slide it on, stick those pipes in the drive gear teeth one after the other so there is about 5 of them in the gear holding the links up; sometimes you can do every other tooth. Once you have them all the way around the end of the gear, use the pry bar to slide the track over on top of the drive gear. It works easier if you do that on the idler gear end and the pipe just fits in between the teeth on the tracks. Make sure the plug is out on the track tension grease zerk. takes a bit more grease to pump back up but a lot easier. I have had to do it with sticks cut out of trees before when we slipped a track way down in the woods.

It's great to have good friends with the right equipment and know how to use them and will help when doing something like that otherwise it would take a couple of days possibly to get that track on if you'd done it by yourself

I have a question that is partly a suggestion. Is there room in the side where you took the zerk out to put an extension to move the zerk closer to the cover so when the zerk is removed you could easily direct the grease out so there is not as much a mess inside the cover tunnel. I am not sure of the correct names of the parts but I hope you understand what I am trying to describe. I have added a length of small pipe to drain the oil out of a small engine on a mower motor so when changing the oil there is not so much of a mess; same idea.

Next time you do this, put a 12" piece of 3" pipe in the hole to catch the grease as it oozes out? 🤔

Why didn't you change the both of them at the same instead of just chaging one of them. My partner has always said that it's best if one needs doing it best to do both that way you have two new traeds instead of just one new tread Kathy Australia
@royreynolds1082 жыл бұрын
If you replace in pairs, the old one that comes off would be an emergency spare. If you can afford it.
@idigit49672 жыл бұрын
If the other track is still fine then I’m not gonna replace it. One track was $2500 and some change. I don’t see the need to replace a $2500 dollar part for no reason.
