(on edit: I wrote this before Hannah's summary when she said most of the same things) Vocal damage? Um, she is about 50 years old. All of our voices change a LOT. (Her voice has not changed for the better but it has changed for good. Joke.) No trauma is required. Rent was 1996 and Wicked was 2003. I am not saying she has never damaged her voice and I'm not a great fan of the last decade of live performances but c'mon -- she did some if the most effective work of her career (in Frozen 2) in her late 40s voicing a character who is about 21 so it's all good.
@matthewlove82544 жыл бұрын
Agreed... She changed broadway and is still a phenomenal singer. I wish she would not hit the high notes in full voice anymore. Just change it up and us falsetto in most places, would help her continue for many more years.
@hannahmisselhorn3 жыл бұрын
Here's what I'll say to that. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but some of my favorite broadway leading ladies like Stephanie J Block and Lea Salonga are her age and sound almost the exact same as they did 15-20 years ago, just more mature. I've never heard a bad belt from either of them. Another thing that has made me dislike her as a performer is that Idina has made a comment that she's happy with a performance if she hits 75% of the notes. That's not good, you should never set the bar so low for yourself.

Idina was one of the first people I listened to when I got into Broadway and I was lucky enough to see her live a couple years ago. She definitely has grown and from what I could tell, I think she's learned her softer voice is just as good, sometimes better. She also has a great sense of humor. On a side note, I think that Barrett Wilbert Weed is (hopefully) going to have the same path vocally, since she also is known for her belts and also has a great softer side. Just my opinion though.

I highly recommend listening to her cover of No Day But Today- she usually gets the audience to sing with her when she does it live.

To me I can’t differentiate between Idina’s voice and her personality. I think she’s a humble badass. A freaking powerhouse. Sometimes she doesn’t sound great but I often think well woman you’re adorable. And she changed Disney. Now Disney is a bit more Broadway and more ballads and theatrical and layered. I did love her on glee/her performances NOT her character but she’s just so charming.

haha, I loved this one. Honest and a bit critical but never unfair and "UGH I hate that". Stuff about the physics and medicine of voices. It makes me wonder about Idina's voice coaches and if they noted the save vocal squeezes and chin-lifting and tried to stop it, or if everyone just kinda got together and said "this is how she sounds- that's it". Like if her attempts to correct it just screwed her up more and it didn't work out. One thing I have noticed as a big fan is that she can be spotty at times, and never likes to sing the same way twice- like she'll inflect totally different some days, riff things all over, randomly go high when she never has before, etc. Like it's just kind of some thing she does. It probably drives uber-pros and perfectionists crazy, haha.

I've seen a lot of hate for Idina, but here's what I know ... my husband and I went to see Frozen, and at the same moment in "Let it Go", we both turned to each other with jaws dropped. We got chills and have been fans ever since. No one can deny that "Let it Go" has become just about the biggest hit ever, and Elsa soared in popularity over Anna (though I love Kristin Bell so very much). It spurred the first Disney animated sequel in theaters. No one can deny that. She's simply spectacular. And for anyone who likes to judge, fine, you go up there and do it better.

I'm Brazilian so the first time I saw Idina was in Enchanted and then years later I found out that she was voicing Elsa and I was like "I didn't even know she could sing" so last year I started watching glee and she showed up and so there was the iconic defying gravity scene and I was shocked like "MY GOD THAT SONG IS AMAZING" so I went to research and BUM (like eliza i was helpless) Idina Menzel was Elphaba in the OBC (also has the fact that Kristen does malevolent offspring) and I was shocked hahahaha after that I got into an inexplicable addiction to musical theater and never left (maybe but only maybe i became a theater kid in a city where nobody cares about it but okay, i get over it) i found out that it had wicked in Brazil and honestly it is one of the best translations of musicals I've ever seen. Now every time I watch Enchanted I think "It was hard to give Nancy a song ???? I THINK NOT DISNEY" God i cant believe i lose years of my life without know her. Well, sorry for my bad english♥️
