As other commentators have already pointed out: there is an equivalent phrase in German: " Der Tropfen der das Fass zum überlaufen bringt" [the drop (of water) that makes the barril overflow]. However, there is another German phrase that is somewhat similar but not exactly the same: "Der Krug geht zum Brunnen bis er bricht" [the jar goes to the fountain until it (the jar) breaks]. It means you do something (bad) over and over and over again, until "the force" strikes back. Like you provoke somebody over and over and over again, until that person one day punches you badly. Or you smoke cigarettes over and over and over again, until one day you wake up with lung cancer. Essentially you're pushing the envelope until it snaps. As said, this phrase has not the same meaning as the straw one, but somehow the two are related I find. Like, the last provocation before being punched hard is the last straw. Or the last cigarette before the onset of lung cancer was the last straw.

Hallöchen, Mark!!! You've no idea how much I missed this "Oh, I didn't see you there-intro"!!! For that reason alone you made me very happy today!!!👍👍👍👏👏👏 You've lost a lot of weight recently, haven't you???🤔🤔🤔 And what did you do with your hair anyway???😁😁😁 You know, quite some years ago I learned two books on English idioms by heart!!! "The straw that broke the camel's back" was one of my absolute favorites!!! Furthermore I truly liked "to have bats🦇🦇 in the belfry🤪" and "Birds of a feather flock together" best!!!👍👍👍 The German equivalent to the straw-camel-idiom is "Der Tropfen💧 der das Fass zum Überlaufen bringt"!!! (Literally translated: The drop that makes the barrel overflow!!!) Believe me, I'm also just a lost soul drifting through life!!! Murphy's law seems to be my fate as well!!! No chance, I'm afraid!!! You'll never be able to defy the law of gravity!!! (But if so - please teach me how to get the hang of it!!!) Come to think of it, actually you did, at least that once!!! Do you remember, when you drove back from the east coast to Calgary, I told you that you would've to leave our galaxy in order to be able to drive more than 24 hours a day!!! Having returned home, you confirmed to me that you really had to defy gravity!!! I wonder if everyone, except for you, was on the naughty list and got turned into a monkey, had I better steer clear of the Isle of Mark??? Just in case!!!😁😁😁🐒🐒🐒 Yes, yes, yes!!! Please let us have more videos on idioms and phrasal verbs!!! Your-joke-of-the-day!!! When you're a camel every day is hump day!!! 😁😁😁🐪🐫 Have a very nice time in Costa Rica!!! Take care, my friend!!!😎👑😎👑😎🤝🇨🇷🇩🇪🙋♀️

Hallöchen! 😃😃 Thanks for liking the intro! 😎 Yes, I got really sick for a week and didn't eat anything, so I probably lost a few pounds! I'll try to fatten myself up again! I bought a hair band that holds my hair back. 😁 Cool! I've never heard "bats in the belfry" before. What is a belfry? 🤔 Thanks for teaching me the German idiom! It would be a lot easier to teach than the English version since I wouldn't have to go down a rabbit hole talking about Bactrian camels. 😁 Yes, I remember defying gravity on my trip back from the East Coast! 😎 You made a rare mistake in your grammar today. Would you like me to point it out? You can never say "would've to". If the word "to" comes next, then you have to say the full word "have". Hmm, I don't think you would get turned into a monkey! I thought you were a good girl...or am I wrong? 🤔 Great joke! I guess if every day is Wednesday then the camels will never have any SUNdays to get fried, eh? 🤔 Have an awesome day in Schneeville!

Hi Mark!!! Are you holding a mate in your hand? Or is it a kind of fruit and alcohol beverage? Have you tasted mates in Costa Rica? Let us know in your comments!! 🤣😁We call that wooden straw a “bombilla” unlike the plastic straw which is used for drinks for instance, but I imagine you already know the Spanish name 😁 for it. It is very hard to explain idioms, isn’t it? The fact that the words don’t mean what each word means in isolation makes you use your imagination to give examples or parallelism for its meaning but really, you did it great! The comparison with the grain of salt, funny and clear! I’ve already known “That was the last straw” but I didn’t know “the straw that broke the camel’ s back”, poor camel!!! 🐫🐫. That idiom wouldn’t work with a dromedary 🐪 as the back is just one hump, I mean it’s not broken 🤣. So it has some real meaning in a way 👍🏼. I like your t-shirt, by the way! Keep enjoying!
