From the Greek root word idios- you get words such as “idiosyncrasy,” “idiolatry,” and “idiolect,” even a word with a fairly dark history. Sometimes I find two words that seem like they came from the same root, but actually are separate. I can't think of one off the top of my head (a wonderful idiom!) but that sort of thing always gets me wondering about the evolution of language.
