We all have idiosyncrasies, whether or not we can recognize them as such. Even how we speak can be idiosyncratic, creating a recognizable idiolect. From the Greek root word idios- you get words such as “idiosyncrasy,” “idiolatry,” and “idiolect,” even a word with a fairly dark history. This advanced vocabulary series will take your vocabulary game to an even higher level.

Sometimes I find two words that seem like they came from the same root, but actually are separate. I can't think of one off the top of my head (a wonderful idiom!) but that sort of thing always gets me wondering about the evolution of language.

I can't think of an example right now, either, but I know exactly what you're talking about. It goes to show that you can't judge a word by its appearance 🤔 Some history may be hiding behind it that throws you off. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, Cheers! :D
