Brief guide to BF-109K4 basics in DCS. I am not a DCS ACE and this is not intended to be complete guide to dog fighting. It's simply to answer some common questions I've seen and help people get in the air. For more in depth info as well as exact numbers and specifications I recommend Chucks Guides. Just google and it will pop up.

Thank you so much for this video Sir! Bf109 is my favourite WW2 aircraft....in fact its my second favourite aircraft of all time after the F-16....but I could never quite wrap my head around the engine management...and would blow the engine a lot.... After watching this I need to try again! ;)

Brilliant tutorial, I have visited lots and you were the only one who mentioned the GOVENER ,which was causing me to constantly have a seized Engine because i didn't know it existed, and no one mentioned it before, now all is great, thank you sir.

Thank you. I plan to do the P-47 next followed by the FW-190A8. Just picked up the last 2 WW2 modules so Hopefully I will be able to get them all done in the coming weeks.

@@Jack-Tactical Can't wait to see what you do with the Fw-190A8. I've managed to takeoff and land in both that one and the Dora but it ain't pretty... :-D

@@GrandAdmiralHamilton The best tip I can give that applies to all planes is to control speed with pitch and altitude with throttle. It seems weird but once you get the hang of it you can have a much smoother approach and softer touch down. You can come in with a slight nose high attitude and use throttle to arrest the descent rate. If you start climbing, back it down a hair. Cut throttle and flair just off the ground and hold the stick back to keep the tail wheel locked. I’m just getting some practice with the Dora but overall it’s ground handling is pretty much the same between them. Will try to get another vid done when I have another quiet evening at the house. (Usually kids arguing about something in the background).

@@GrandAdmiralHamilton That’s what it applies to. General flying is more about throttle for speed like normal. But when landing you want to use throttle to control how fast the plane drops. Pitch the nose up or down to speed up or slow down. Nose up=slow down. Then keep it up a little and add some throttle until you have a slow descent. Probably doesn’t sound right explaining in the comments.

So if i stay between the 100 to 130 C° with the cooland temp( green one?!) the motor wont be too hot? Only if it goes above that?

I master that plane in the air, but when taking off I mostly no matter what I do get into a left roll and die xD

Try setting the propellor pitch to manual while idling. You’ll have to be careful not to give too much throttle taking off but it will reduce the torque and help keep things under control. Switch it back to automatic once your in the air. But make sure you watch your RPM and not just the boost.

Excellent basic information. What’s your advice for a reasonably priced HOTAS (stick, throttle & pedals) which would be best for flying this in DCS?

I used the Saitek X52 pro with the Thrustmaster TFRP Rudder Pedals for years, it's a good priced beginner setup ImO, switched over to the Warthog hotas a while ago but the rudder pedals are still the same

How do you move your head, inside the cockpit if i don't have track ir? I mean with mouse movement

I use VR so I just turn my head. Using mouse to look around would be really difficult and I’m not sure if it’s an option.

Great info...But how do you flight straight ? Are you correcting with just rudder ?

Yes, you’ll need to correct with rudder. The amount needed will depend on speed and engine power setting.

My engine keeps dying . Can't figure it out Was doing fine but took a week break now got to learn all over , err . Thanks for the video

Make sure you are setting the pitch to auto, otherwise you can over speed the engine and kill it. Also make sure you aren’t going over 1.42 ATA without having the MW50 on. I’ve been flying more modern stuff lately so that’s the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. Not sure if they’ve implemented some kind of warmup requirement recently but AFAIK it’s only been applied to radials. 👍
