Idiots Play Entire Casting Of Frank Stone!

So like some other comments have said, this game is pretty difficult to understand if you don't know your DBD lore. So I'll try my best to explain. What we see in 1963, 1980, and 2024 are in three separate universes. This explains why the fishing posters in the watchman's booth at the mill are different when we see them in 1963 and 1980 (I'm pretty sure the one in 1963 says 'reel them in' while the one in 1980 says 'keep them hooked'). It also explains why Madi exists at all. Her mom is dead in the 1980 universe, but she survived in the 2024 universe. Frank Stone's story begins in the late 1920s, where he's born to his mom and dad. He had a relatively normal childhood until about the age of 7, where his parents die in a house fire. He is the only survivor. He is then later put into the care of his grandmother, who lives in Cedar Hills, Oregon. His grandmother wasn't exactly good at parenting him. She cared a lot about him, but she said things like 'friends aren't really worth it,' and this upbringing is what likely caused him to become such a violent individual later in life. Frank committed his first crime in 1956 (assault). This led to him being admitted into a psychiatric hospital, and he met his tormentor, the most damaging figure in his life: Dr. Augustine Lieber. Augustine used Stone's vulnerable mental state to her advantage, grooming him into believing that his crimes are not simply him being violent, but rather, signaling that he has a higher calling. After getting out of the hospital, Augustine instructed Stone to commit several murders, so that he could prove himself to the Entity (the big evil thing in the sky at the end of the game). This eventually led to the game's prologue, where Sam Green kills Frank Stone and saves Jaime. Or he lets Jaime die (but still kills Stone). Jaime is the baby at the beginning of the game. How do I know that? Well, if you let him die, it's revealed in the 2024 universe, through a newspaper that Augustine has collected, that a newspaper from the 1963 universe recites the events of the prologue, and confirms that Stone's final victim immediately before being killed is Jaime Rivera. Also, when 2024 Linda starts talking to 2024 Sam, and when Linda brings up Jaime, he seems confused at the mention of him, as if he's never met him. Whereas if you save the baby, he won't be confused. This also heavily implies that the Sam we see in 2024 is the same Sam from the 1963 universe. I'll quickly explain Sam's whole deal, in the early 2000s, he started working for the Imperiatti, an organization that directly opposes the Entity. After this, he became multiversal John Wick, and carried out a bunch of mission for the Imperiatti, which eventually led to the events we see in the 2024 universe. It's why he's in his early 60s even though he should technically be 80, because of time-fuckery. Now let's talk about Augustine. Augustine's motivations are… a little vague. We know that she's working for an organization called the Black Vale, an interdimensional cult that worships the Entity. She wants to mold Frank Stone into a monster for the Entity, so she can… prove her worth to it? Maybe? Gain knowledge? Again, her motives are very poorly explained. We don't really know much about Augustine's life before she met Frank Stone, but we know that she's been serving the Entity for a very long time, and she may be hundreds of years old. Some miscellaneous things: 1. The reason why the game is called 'The Casting of Frank Stone' is because 'casting' has two definitions: casting someone in a role in a film (Stone is the main antagonist of the film Murder Mill), and the other definition, pouring molten metal or other material into a mold (which could be a metaphor for Augustine molding Stone into the monster he becomes). 2. In the 2024 universe, Linda and her friends never encountered Frank Stone's spirit. This is because the storekeeper (who is actually Augustine) never gave the cursed camera to the crew, which is what directly summoned Frank Stone's spirit. This means Frank's presence in the 2024 version of the film is very minimal, both narratively and supernaturally. But it's just significant enough to make people go insane when they watch it. (Note: the version of the film you watch at the end of the game is the 1980 version, not the 2024 version.) 3. Stan got his piece of the film from an individual named 'Robbie G.', who is actually Robert Green, Sam's son. It turns out that Robert actually died in between the events at the mill and the events of the 2024 segments. Supposedly, Robert was so torn up about Murder Mill's failure that he turned to drugs and alcohol, which allowed Stan to use his vulnerable state of mind to take his piece of the film away from him. 4. If you see a theory that Chris is actually a variant of Augustine, no, she's not. The devs confirmed in a Deadline interview that Chris and Augustine are not related, and anything similarities between the two is purely coincidental. 5. The old woman we see in the post-credits scene (and the one that chases Madi and Stan in the Horologium) is probably the original Augustine.

There's rumors from a supposed ex dev (not confirmed) that they were apparently forced to cut out a lot of stuff in this game for budget reasons, like there was originally way more scenes that fleshed out the characters and story more. Apparently there was more real time chases and action scenes they had to cut cause the publisher rushed them out the door. Tbh I can totally see it, as much as I enjoyed this game there's a lot of parts in it that feel like there's something missing.
