Having seen the boys about 10 times live now, I spend about 50% of the gig just watching Jon. There’s something so emotional in the way they close with Rottweiler and Jon’s role in it.

Saw them in ATL earlier this month and that snare tone is other worldly. Came to this video to try and achieve the same sound.

Jon Beavis is a beast, definitely one of the best drummers around. From Brutalism to Tangk, his work is nothing short of amazing.

I really like how Jon incorporated electronics here. I noticed at the Boston show last night that he was actually playing the drum machine parts. I was relieved they didn't just use a backing track. I also noticed he wasn't just tapping on the Roland pad exclusively, but couldn't really see what was going on. Then I found this rundown and now it all makes sense! I also like that they don't use a click for everything live. Their live energy is hard to beat. Big fan of Idles and Jon's drumming! Never too flashy and always rock solid, kind of deceptively simple really. Once you try to play it you realize it's hard to make it sound like it should.

I played Vic Firth for... fifteen years? I loved the feel of the sticks I used and I just kinda took it for granted that "that's just how long sticks last". Then I started playing some Vaters and thought "wow these things feel indestructible!" and then I played some Promarks and thought "Wow these are indestructible AND they feel great!" In a dream scenario I'd get a ProMark firegrain rip off of the Dave Weckl sig and just play it forever.

Drummers who aren’t drum nerds and don’t even know what they’re playing really bother me.
