Once when i prepared the batter, the batter turned out to be somewhat thin consistency after fermenting. I added ragi flour to make it thicker and steam it. It turned out well with with brown color idli.

Many of the viewers have asked why methi seeds are added to this. Let me explain the reason behind this. Soaked and ground methi seeds add up to the stickiness of the batter. Since rice does not have gluten in it, unlike wheat. This stickiness helps the idlis puff up while steaming, making them soft and spongy. The stickiness is also derived from urad dal and no other dal can be so sticky and fluffy after grinding. This sticky property of methi also makes the dosa crisp and thin. Hope that helps.
