Technically, we as Muslims are more "Christian" than modern Christians themselves as we believe in the core teachings of Jesus/Isa PBUH - including his disciples collectively called the Nazarenes (original followers of Christ). Also, regarding idolatry, many of the ornamentation and customs of Catholicism (corrupted version of the Nazarenes) were adopted from the pagan Romans. Similarly, the Nicene Creed in the 4th century was the final nail in the coffin for the original message of Jesus/Isa PBUH where it was decided by a vote among high priests that Christianity from then on would be the worship of 3 "God-heads" ie the Trinity. This is the gravest sin anyone can commit in the face of God/Allah.
