I always thought the main difference between Russell (who I can't stand) and Tony (who I love) is that Tony is having so much fun without being unnecessarily mean just to be mean. And he didn't have the strong sense of misogyny that Russell had (I can't imagine him talking about Trish or Sarah the way Russell talked about the women in his alliance). Watching Tony run around the island like a kid with too much sugar out past his bedtime was so entertaining. Joe was so bland compared to Ozzy and Malcolm. I remember thinking he seemed nice enough in WA, but that might have just been compared to most of the other guys in the season. Sebastian was just annoying.

Tony also has a certain degree of moral consistency that's lacking in Russel. He kept his promises until someone betrayed him, with the only exception I can remember being when he planned on blindsiding Woo, which he seemed genuinely remorseful about. Russel meanwhile burned bridges like there was no tomorrow. Edit: I forgot that Tony also blindsided Trish, his closest ally in the game. But I guess you can consider that a "necessary evil."

I know it was briefly featured at the start, but given that Terry has gone on record as saying he wanted to go on the show because he was inspired by Tom, I'd think it would be worth a larger shout-out. Hell, he's on the same season as Danielle, who's much a Stephanie knock-off in the same way. Was it really coincidence they were put in charge of dividing the tribes? On RHAP's recent season countdown Rob even referred to Panama as "Bizarro Palau" where the hot mess tribe somehow succeeded instead.

As strange as it may sound, I actually don't think I ever thought of Ryan as a Cochran clone until this video. And I remember watching Pirate Master and actually liking it. The sad thing is with just a little bit of tweaking to the Mutiny system (make it so they only need 1 Officer for it to work, and the Officer becomes the new Captain), and a second season, I'm positive the show could have totally been turned around.

The teams were different every week, but what you're thinking of is that the format was that the reigning captain and their two officers were always on the black team, and everyone else was divided between the black and red team at random, and there was a period where the captain and officers were 3 strong guys, so they kept winning and keeping their positions of power, which is most likely what led to the officer position eventually being disbanded and those 3 strong guys being separated.

If we could do honorable mentions I would definitely put Cassandra from Survivor Fiji as a knock off version of Cirie from Panama. It's not just the fact that they were middle aged African-American women. They played up how Cassandra in Fiji was afraid of the outdoors similarly to the way Cirie was afraid of leaves in Panama. Only difference between the two is that Cirie has a great social game and Cassandra...didn't.

I think they were doomed by the 1-2 punch of Willie Hantz getting violent on Big Brother and then Brandon's meltdown on Caramoan. They probably really still wanted Hantz's on their shows, but realized they were too risky to be worth the proverbial squeeze at that point.

HHH was like the knock off version of the knock off version. Is not that you expect survivor to give you different archetypes but when you have only 2nd rate versions of popular characters (and Ali who didn't even make the merge) then you get a dull season on a first watch. The rewatch is much better when you know the riggory that was coming. Ryan is much funnier when you know how much of a goat he is.

I feel like Survivor, Big Brother, and even The Challenge on MTV will all try to get like exact copies of each other's players when they get a popular one lol maybe it's coincidence but I can't help but compare Boston Rob and CT, Tyson and Wes, Russell from BB11 and Joe from Survivor HHH.. I've never really like compiled a complete list lol but I think this a lot whenever I'm watching any of these shows.
